Macbook Pro 16 is Heavier than the 15

It's not revolutionary,. but it's what people needed and asked for. Previous one was "revolutionary" and people hated it.

Why reinvent the wheel when it has been already invented and works just fine?
Also people need to stop asking for revolutionary products from a category that's supposed to appeal to professionals who first and foremost care about performance and reliability. This is a very good all around performance laptop. It doesn't need to reinvent wheel. It needs performance, good battery life, good thermals and a decent keyboard.

With these things it often boils down to balance. The pre-2016 definitely feels heavier, as it it "chubbier". I can imagine the 16" feeling very similar to the Touch Bar model though, as it retains its slim build. My chief concern is whether it will fit into my bags :D
Haha mine too my 2018 barely squeezes into the slieve I have for it 🤣

Is it just me or does this seem like a noticable difference?"

It's a difference.
And IT'S ABOUT TIME that Apple came to the conclusion that "thinner and lighter is not always better".

For the slightly larger display, and the better keyboard (which makes it slightly "thicker" I believe), the extra heft is worth it.

"Thin and light" are desirable.
But RELIABILITY is FAR more important.

My statement “truly revolutionary” was intended as sarcasm. It was funny to me that someone pointed how a more powerful laptop with a bigger screen and battery was heavier than the previous generation. I agree with you that it’s what people asked for. Kudos to Apple.

I expect lighter if not thinner. Especially with Intel paving the way for 10nm Ice Lake architectures, I expect that future MacBook Pro 16” in the near future (maybe 2020) to have better battery life than what we’re seeing right now if not a decrease in weight.

Of course...remember 3 years ago.."apple stop making a PRO device thiner and lighter"
Now we have its too heavy, my back, oh dear my back
This is MR. If Apple gave them away we'd complain about having to go to an Apple Store ratehr than get it delivered.

I like the new 16; am considering getting one to replace my 2018 15 inch. My only gripe is my Pad and Quill cover won't fit.

I'm glad they added an esc key but kept the touchbar. Now if they'd just make the touchbar more customizable...

Umm, a modest suggestion, but if the .17 kg difference is such a physical burden...put down the avocado toast and hit the gym?

Increasing the size of the laptop from 15 to 16" while increasing the specs across the board and WITHOUT adding significant weight is quite an achievement from an engineering perspective.

Maybe I don't get the target audience this post was directed at, but it's a portable workstation...not a fashion accessory?

All these "hit the gym" comments are unnecessary. For some people (myself included) weight is an important factor and the 4lb weight of the previous 15" MBP put it over the threshold to be considered in the same class as previous gen 13" MBPs. For my personal needs (as a previous exclusive 13" laptop user) that was kind of nice.

BUT I still think Apple made the right call. There were too many compromises for the larger MBPs Target audience to get to that weight/thinness. The 16" MBP is a better balanced machine. Does that mean it is a little heavier than I would like? Sure. But that's ok.

I think it is safe to assume that some of this will trickle down to the 13" MBP where it will be more appropriate to target users for whom size and weight is as important a consideration as performance. OP should just wait for that computer if the 16" bugs them that much.

A guy in YouTube said the weight difference is not really noticeable.

I saw a review done by a woman and she specifically called out the increased weight as being noticeable. I am a woman so I think the weight increase will be very noticeable depending on the person. (And I'm ok with that)

It’s interesting most of the previewers didn’t mention the dimensions getting larger, only weight/thickness - To give credit due, iJustine did (ironic as many on this forum critique that she isn’t a proper reviewer, her AirPods Pro preview was also the best).

Not that I have a problem with it being larger of course.
Yes, the reviewers tend to be very shallow. They did not even look at the specs reported by Apple itself. Strange, because this information is easy to get, with just five minutes of web browsing through Apple's website. The laptop is larger and heavier, although just a little bit.

I'll take heavier for the bigger battery and better cooling any day.

I might have issues with heavier iPhones, but not a slightly heavier laptop.

That said, I can understand if it's an issue for some folks.

I have the new computer and it's not much of a difference at all. It's barely noticeable and the battery life has been outstanding. I'd rather have better battery in exchange for a little more weight.
