I have Macbook Pro 17” 2006 thats not turning on anymore.

When i plug the magsafe the light is turning on but very dark.
the light of the magsafe is dim.

What the problem could be?

Thanks

Inspect the connector pins on both the power adapter, and the magsafe connector. Make sure that none of the pins are stuck down, and that there is no stray material stuck in the pins area. Remove the battery, and try the magsafe again. If the power adapter turns on (the LEDs look normal), and you can now now boot (without the battery), then you probably have a bad "left I/O board"
If you still have nothing, try a different magsafe adapter

To be honest, unless it's a simple fix such as cleaning the magsafe charger/port, 99% of repairs would not be worth the cost (if you could even find replacement parts) on a 20-year old Mac. That machine can't run recent versions of Mac OS, and would also not run current versions of many apps as a result. You might be able to bring that into a third-party repair shop to diagnose, but due to 2006 models being classified as obsolete no Apple Store/Genius Bar could repair the hardware.

A dim LED could imply the cable isn't supplying insufficient power. MagSafe 1 cables were known to suffer from faults and internal breakages from wear and tear, especially where the cable meets the MagSafe plug that attaches to the laptop. The internal wiring can sometimes flat out break even if the sheathing is still intact, causing arcing which is a fire hazard. Inspect the cable for signs of wear like stretched or split sheathing or burn/singe marks or other darkening. I think I went through 2-3 power cables for my 2006 MacBook in the 4 years I had it and at least 3 for the 2010 MBP I had after that, all failing at the exact same point.

Also, even if a small amount of power is trickling into the system it would still charge the battery if the system is off, albeit very slowly. If the battery hasn't gotten enough power to run for a bit overnight that means the battery is probably unable to hold a charge anymore.
