What's up with the prejudice? (i.e. Pre-Judging)
People, let's get something straight. No one, absolutely NO ONE on this forum has used the new MBP 17" yet. All this ranting is based on speculation using data from the PAST.
Can we assume, despite what we THINK we know, the possibility that it's true what Apple is saying? This is an entirely different approach to batteries, after all.
As far as the practicality of a 17" MBP is concerned, if you don't have a use for one, just buy the 15" model, and BE HAPPY. Why all this vitriol aimed at a machine the clearly wasn't targeted at you? (I see people arguing about what "Pros" need, without actually being one.)
I'm starting to suspect a bit of jealously on the part of all these MBP/Apple bashers. It's easier to trash something you secretly desire, than to admit you cannot afford it.
Hey, it's not presently in my budget either, but like my first MBP I will make it a reality. I created the money for my CoreDuo MBP by working an extra part-time job, selling my old IBM ThinkPad and a huge pile of old CDs. In other words, I put my RANT energy into purposeful action that got me my dream machine.
To quote Robert Kiyosaki ("Rich Dad, Poor Dad"): Never say "I can't afford it. Instead ask "how can I afford it?" So, hop off of this forum, and instead start brainstorming some $$$ ideas!
Lastly - who are we to assume we're smarter than the folks at Apple? I mean, have any of us taken a company that was nearly dead 11 years ago to it's present position of wealth and success? These folks must know something about the business they're in. You don't generate increasing sales of high-priced MacBooks during a recession (while the other "big name" computer companies can barely sell their much cheaper offerings) by being clueless about your market!
