How did the refurbished logic board arrived that fast?
- Don't know. I guess my AASP has good connections or something. It's generally not a very busy location, either, so that probably enabled them to do next-day service. It wasn't some fluke, as they promised next-day when I handed it in. So it must just be the way they do things. Very happy with it. It's manageable finding things to do where you don't need your machine when it's just a day.

The Apple Genius ran the VST (Video System Test) and then he just put my laptop in the box and said that it's going to be sent to a repair center.

He probably seen so many 2011 model failed that he doesn't want to deal with it.

Yes, because undoubtedly it's a conspiracy against you.

I politely asked the Apple Genius if I might encountered the same issue again after the repair has been completed. He assured me that that "rarely" ever happened and that most people are " completely satisfied" with the repairs.

I wonder how it feels to have to repeat the same lies over and over again.

Mine is still perfect a year on, and if it fails again it's also a free repair so honestly you're worrying over nothing.

Yes, it's free so long as the failure happens within the four year window since the machine was purchased or happens before the end of this year. After that you're on your own. And just think, how many 2011 machines do you think are still within that four year window midway into 2016?

And so there's plenty of time until the end of this year to fix it, right? In theory the fix should make it good for the next 2-3 years. In practice, it may fail again, but electronics tend to fail. At some point you have to buy a newer model anyway. If someone encounters the problem midway into 2017, then you have a point, but the repair program is active still. And keep in mind they extended it once, you never know if they won't extend it again.

- I "hope" I do. My coverage doesn't expire until Feb 2018 due to consumer laws, so I'd really like a failure before then or none at all. But it's still a problem of having that deadline after which you're screwed - mine's just extended a bit.

Yeah, of course. Ideally it's on forever and there's no deadline, but end of 2016 is a 5 year old machine. That's usually the point where support is being dropped for most tech products, I'd imagine a repair would still be available but maybe just at a cost. Or they'll extend it again, who knows. Agree it's a bit of a pain though.

I just got my MacBook Pro back from the Apple Store.

Apparently, I got a new top case also because "some keys don't work" even though I have previously installed a new keyboard.
