I tried to sing the praises of the 470, but everyone's so hell bent on the Vertex 3 these days. Even though it has one of the worst reliability percentages of the SSD market. Seems people just don't care about their data much anymore.

I mean look at that that one link you posted:'

http://www.techspot.com/review/383-ocz-vertex-3-ssd/page5.html

The Samsung is performing almost as fast in the real world scenarios as two SATA 3 drives.

Samsung 470 Series 256 GB SSD - 17 seconds. I agree with the post quoted above.

I was very close to getting a samsung 470 but I was turned off on what a hassle it was suppose to be for apple users to get firmware updates.

I've tried resetting EMC and PRAM, yeah.

I guess I'll go with a clean install on the Kingston. Thanks for the tip. I'll probably wait for Lion to come out officially first, though. It's just going to be a pain in the ass since the Intel is the smaller of the two drives, so I didn't really want to use it for my media and larger files.

Another option might be formatting your Intel G2 and giving it a clean install.

Maybe there is performance degradation on it now and possibly files are fragmented.

16.5 seconds from push of power button to display of background picture.

Kingston 96gb v+100 in a Macbook Pro 13 2011 i5 2.3 with 8gb ram.

On Samsungs website there is an iso you download. You cant make the iso from OS X and upgrade from there?

I haven't looked into it but I guess it's an ISO that runs from DOS. That's the way Intel does it too.

It might be possible to boot the ISO on a Mac. I had no problems booting a PartedMagic ISO from OCZ. Updating the firmware on the Vertex 3 didn't work though.

Reading the posts here makes me feel real bad that I got the m4. I thought it would be the fastest ssd on the market. What a waste of money. I could have gotten a kingston for a fraction of the price. But I didn't because I saw some bad reviews of it on amazon.

No, they SHOULD work in the 2011 MacBook Pro. But it's a dice roll due to unacknowledged SATA3 hardware issues.

As for mine, Samsung 470 128GB gets me to the login window (which would be desktop if I didn't mandate login) in 12-15 seconds. No, I'm not kidding. It's FAST. I would submit that for day-to-day usage, a normal user would find the Samsung 470 128 or 256GB the best bang for the dollar, plus no dice roll - SATA2 drives work perfectly.

Did you have to apply the TRIM hack on your Samsung drive?

Do you know any SSD brand that has firmware updates for OS X? I don't think there is any.

OWC's extreme pro 6g comes ready to rock n roll with the latest for os x...thats the way it was explained to me and there was an article about the rework and firmware posted here the other day...Im no expert though.

Exactly the same, 500GB Seagate XT Hybrid, 18 seconds from button pressed to desktop loaded, ready for use.

I tried one of these last week and was turned off by the horrible vibration. Did you guys experience any after installing yours? I was lucky enough to get a full refund.

Anyone here able to post boot times with older hardware? I'm eye'ing off an SSD for my late 2008 MBP (C2D 2.66) as a means to holding off a purchase for another couple of years.

OWC SSD Mercury 60GB in Data-doubler;

When booting straight into OS X, 9 seconds from 'turn-on noise' to Safari, Mail, Vuze, VLC, Preview, and a bunch of other applications opening up ready to use. Really impressive, SSD!

However when it 'waits' for the Option key, its more like 14-16 seconds. Disappointing to be honest.

Zero vibration here. But maybe the mounting system in the MBP 2011 improved?

There is no vibration or noise made by the Momentus XT inside my 13", if there is any difference between it and the stock drive it would be under 2db and below the thresh-hold for hearing a difference. The speed on the other hand, that is definitely noticeable.

A video would be great to see... :)

If you can takes a video and share it, these SSD speeds are amazing to see... ;)

Seagate Momentus XT. 16.4 seconds from pressing power button to appearing of desktop image.

What's wrong with your M4?

It's still faster than the Kingston V+ 100. Check here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6178

Mine boots in 8 seconds, counting from appearance of the apple logo until it's fully started.

Please also measure from pressing the power button to the appearing of the desktop image.
