I tried to sing the praises of the 470, but everyone's so hell bent on the Vertex 3 these days. Even though it has one of the worst reliability percentages of the SSD market. Seems people just don't care about their data much anymore.
I mean look at that that one link you posted:'

The Samsung is performing almost as fast in the real world scenarios as two SATA 3 drives.
I've tried resetting EMC and PRAM, yeah.
I guess I'll go with a clean install on the Kingston. Thanks for the tip. I'll probably wait for Lion to come out officially first, though. It's just going to be a pain in the ass since the Intel is the smaller of the two drives, so I didn't really want to use it for my media and larger files.
I was very close to getting a samsung 470 but I was turned off on what a hassle it was suppose to be for apple users to get firmware updates.
Is it only windows?
Yes...there was a way to get it for os x but it sounded like a pain.
No, they SHOULD work in the 2011 MacBook Pro. But it's a dice roll due to unacknowledged SATA3 hardware issues.
As for mine, Samsung 470 128GB gets me to the login window (which would be desktop if I didn't mandate login) in 12-15 seconds. No, I'm not kidding. It's FAST. I would submit that for day-to-day usage, a normal user would find the Samsung 470 128 or 256GB the best bang for the dollar, plus no dice roll - SATA2 drives work perfectly.
Do you know any SSD brand that has firmware updates for OS X? I don't think there is any.
Exactly the same, 500GB Seagate XT Hybrid, 18 seconds from button pressed to desktop loaded, ready for use.
I tried one of these last week and was turned off by the horrible vibration. Did you guys experience any after installing yours? I was lucky enough to get a full refund.
Zero vibration here. But maybe the mounting system in the MBP 2011 improved?

Anyone here able to post boot times with older hardware? I'm eye'ing off an SSD for my late 2008 MBP (C2D 2.66) as a means to holding off a purchase for another couple of years.
OWC SSD Mercury 60GB in Data-doubler;
When booting straight into OS X, 9 seconds from 'turn-on noise' to Safari, Mail, Vuze, VLC, Preview, and a bunch of other applications opening up ready to use. Really impressive, SSD!
However when it 'waits' for the Option key, its more like 14-16 seconds. Disappointing to be honest.
Reading the posts here makes me feel real bad that I got the m4. I thought it would be the fastest ssd on the market. What a waste of money. I could have gotten a kingston for a fraction of the price. But I didn't because I saw some bad reviews of it on amazon.
Mine boots in 8 seconds, counting from appearance of the apple logo until it's fully started.
i7, apple ssd - takes about 10 sec
