I have installed today the ram and memory by myself.

First you need to connect the SSD with your mac and make a 1:1 clone of your hdd on the sad, then you can exchange it nd it will boot normal.

To connect the sad you need a kit where where u can afterwards put the hdd in as and external hard drive.

BTW its SATA 3 Speed for both now 6gbits ;)))

So does this mean I can buy an optibay and put in a SATA 3 SSD and it will work without problems? This sounds excellent!

Sorry for the bump, but I am going to get my first mac soon and I wanted to know if sata 3 in the optical drive has been confirmed yet for 2012 13 inch macbook pros.

I've seen conflicting reports from google searches and just wanted to confirm

Thanks a lot

I have my MBP 13'' 2012 now, and I have installed a Samsung SSD 830.
I first tried installing it in the Optibay. System Profiles says SATA 6Gbits, but benchmarks were very confusing: speeds varied from 50MB/s to 400MB/s, without any system, and very randomly. Then I tried the SSD in the HDD bay. Speed: ~500MB read / ~400MB write.

So: yes and no. There are SATA 3 ports in both the HDD and the Optical Drive bay, but I would certainly not recommend using an SSD in the Optibay (for now).

Thanks a lot :)

So is this something that can be fixed with a software update? I heard apple had done a silent update that fixed a similar problem last year.

Similar problems were corrected by a Software Update with previous model, but I can not tell you if this can be done again, ore if apple is willing to correct the issue.
But I am hoping too :)

Here is my base Macbook Pro 13" with Kingston HyperX 8gb 1867mhz RAM and SanDisk 240gb SSD.

So can someone else confirm this? SSD in the optical bay won't give proper sata III speeds on the mid 2012 13" MBPs?

Just bought cmbp mid 2012 - ssd in optical bay seems to run reliably at 6gbps. No software mods required. Was a Samsung 840 pro.
