Hi guys,

I think the problem is a design defect of MacBook Pro 15'' with the new model. It is worth a RECALL !

I have the same display problem, and it is the second time the problem occurs. The first screen change was in the 13th months after purchase. The second time I found the problem was 3 months after the change.

I collected cases with the same issue:

It is not a rare case, and a lot of people don't realise it yet. Hope more and more people report the problem to Apple.

In addition, there is another trackpad defect of MacBook Pro 15'':
The left and right edges of the trackpad do not work properly (can't be pressed) in a very high chance. This problem doesn't occur to 13''

I do hope that this does go to a recall since its becoming increasingly prominent, I had my 2017 15' MBP's screen replaced before the warranty expired. Now I am out of warranty and this issue is back...

I don't think the camera did a good job of highlighting the trouble areas but is easily noticeable in day to day use

Hi all,

I have similar issue with my MBP 15" late 2016 with touch bar.

This is the first retina display color problem, I took this photo in Jan 2018. (still under warranty at that time, so replacement fee / part was free)

And after got new display part (Feb2018) now it looks like this.

Only 8 months after 90 days part warranty is over! Unacceptable to pay for the third display!!
So any suggesttion to talk with Apple?

Thanks

I have the same issue here.
This is my second screen, as I have already replaced my previous one due to the same issue last January.
Now, I no longer have the one-year warranty.
What should I/we do?

Did you find a solution? I'm having the exact same issue.

Hi, I'm having the same exact issue. I have a Macbook touchbar from 2016 with Radeon Pro 460 4096mb. Here is a picture. I did not notice it at first, it was pointed out by a friend. Have you gotten anywhere with the recall? thanks.

I had the same problem 3 times and had essentially changed my screen 3 times through AppleCare. However, my fourth screen is starting to show traces of the same problem.

I think it's due to heat from the MacBook causing some damage to the screen. On my current screen, the blue spots are appearing much slower than the other times as I am very conscious of not closing my MacBook immediately after use whenever possible. Also, I have stopped using my laptop in clamshell mode and stopped charging my computer in clamshell mode as that seems to be a sure way to getting these blue spots for me.

I'm curious to know if this issue only affects the 15 inch version. everyone here seems to be using the 15 inch version. Mine's 15 as well.

Hi Xzuk.
Indeed the problem seems to only be affecting 15 inch models. Mine has two horrible stains on the left and right. The heat problem you are suggesting is interesting. 3 times replaced? wow. Its strange how this seems to only affect certain people... and even when the screens are replaced the issue comes back . Apple hasn't admitted that some devices were flawed yet which is honestly sad. these are expensive machines (which are built for precise color and graphics works). Doing something as TRIVIAL as closing the lid when the device is a little hotter or even charging should never cause screen damage to a laptop. This is unheard of. For people like myself who suffered from this problem and don't have warrant anymore, i hope threads like this one raise some awareness for repair program.

I have the same guess, which is also the reason why I posted this vote: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...n-of-your-macbook-pro-2016-2017-2018.2164173/
However, someone with 13-inch MacBook Pro also reported the problem on the post. It happened to him after two-year using.

I also suspected this problem only happens to MacBook Pro 15, so I posted the vote: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...n-of-your-macbook-pro-2016-2017-2018.2164173/. I changed the screen once. Now it happened again. After I noticed it, it's getting worse :(

Its indeed the worst when these problems affect only the minority of users . Its not like bendgate where the majority has a sway..

Hi guys!
I have a 15 inch 2018 Macbook Pro and I too have noticed the blue discoloration in my screen. My laptop is only 4 months old, meeting the Apple Genius guys tomorrow! Let's see if they have more news about a possible recall..

Hi guys!
I have a 15 inch 2018 Macbook Pro and I too have noticed the blue discoloration in my screen. My laptop is only 4 months old, meeting the Apple Genius guys tomorrow! Let's see if they have more news about a possible recall..

My MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) purchased here in Sydney in October 18 had the same problem - round early Feb, an off-white blueish discolouration on the display became visible, especially apparent on light backgrounds. As someone else commented, once you see it you can't unsee it! SMC / PRAM reset made no difference. I also performed Apple Hardware Test which came back with no issues.

Took it to the Apple store Genius Bar, they booked it in under warranty and said it would be repaired for free - but warned me if there was any liquid damage (there wasn't) I would be liable for repair costs. The Genius also told me that this was most likely pressure related and asked me how I transported it - pointed to my laptop backpack which is built like a tank and has a dedicated suspended chamber for the laptop. The Genius said that the latest 2018 MBP has "much more advanced display technology which makes it more susceptible to damage". The Genius must have heard me rolling my eyes - I've had various models of Retina display MacBook Pros since 2012 and this is the first time I've heard that one.

Anyway - the display was replaced under warranty (good thing - the work authorisation docket quoted the repair at AUD 1000) so I'm being extra careful no to apply undue pressure to the top case, hopefully the problem won't reoccur. Luckily Australia consumer law effectively covers these sorts of issues (as long as not deliberate / accidental damage) for two years.

I have the same issue here.
This is my second screen, as I have already replaced my previous one due to the same issue last January.

You have a 90 day warranty from the last repair. Bring it in ASAP.

Quote from apple's legal repair and conditions "6. Apple warrants for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of service "

The machine in my sig is having these issues again (2018 15" MPB). Had the 1st display replaced in January, now 2 months to the day I noticed it again. Appears to be the same area of the display (U shape in the lower half). I'm thinking that the significantly thinner display leaves it vulnerable to pressure on the lid from, say a backpack. My father also has a tb 15" MPB, he carries it in a brief case and hasn't had any issues with it since he bought it in 2016. Thank God for AppleCare!

I guess this design is less resistant to stresses on the case...

I had 3 screen replacements for a 2014 Macbook Pro due to the horrible yellow/cyan tint that plagued those. Gave up on it and they decided to give me a new 2016 model but that had exactly the same issues described here. Sent it back and recieved another one. Didn't open the packaging and just advertised it for sale. Hours and hours of phonecalls and long drives to the Apple Store and reseller store to be constantly met with denial of the problems that were glaringly obvious. Nothing but grief and stress. So I still use my 2011 15 inch with the last of the matte displays. The colour calibration is still perfect after 8 years and zero colour cast. Retina screens on the MBP are garbage in my opinion unless you are using them for non professional reasons. I doubt I will ever buy another Macbook Pro. If every release hadn't been plagued with serious issues then the price of them wouldnt be so exhorbitant. And the fact they still haven't addressed the Staingate issue is incomprehensible. You dont become the biggest most profitable company in the world without ripping off the consumer. They are a disgrace.

Nothing to do with pressure on the case. That's just a cop out excuse from Apple in the hope that you'll accept it and walk away. Bottom line is they are inferior quality.
