It could be a lemon, but it also sounds like you might have some incompatable apps loaded.

i have nothing non-standard installed at the moment. just the standard apple suite of apps. i got that 20 second freeze again just by right-clicking on the link to this very page. there is seriously no rhyme or reason to it. i just can't pinpoint it to any one thing, which sucks.
