I thought it would be a good idea for everyone who owns a MBP with the 8600 GT graphics card to post their experience with their computer.

Namely:

When was the machine bought?
Have you had any graphics related problems with the machine?
How intensive if your graphic card use? Do you play a lot of games?

I am especially interested in users who have had their machine over a year.

I bought my MBP 7 weeks ago, and I have had no problems. I don't really play intensive games on my machine.

Bought mine September of 2007.
Everything was perfect, until recently. Started to get a scrambled screen.
And yesterday all the graphics in photoshop turned weird...
I still do not want to drive for 30 minutes to the Apple store, to get it fixed...

I've had mine for a few months - occasionally I get a scrambled screen (although not in the last week) and it has only happened when using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop together (although it doesn't happen every time those were just the conditions.

I am a light gamer and have never had problems.

There are dozens of existing threads on this subject. There's no need to start another repetitive thread.

This thread isn't to talk about the problem, but for people to post how long they've had their machine and if they have had any graphical problems, and how intensive they use their GPU, where we can try to come to *some* sort of conclusion of what percentage of machines are effected.

All of that is discussed in depth by over 600 posts in this thread. If you want to start it all over again, it's your choice, but it's all been discussed ad nauseum.

Purchased in March '08.
no graphics problems to date
i game a lot. (crysis, COD4, BF2, TF2, HL2, CS, CS:S)

First one was February 2008--no issues. Games and stuff daily.

This one from June 1st--no issues. Games and stuff daily.

Bought June 2008

Minor problems/kernal panics. I think these have been due to external monitor plugging in and out and putting to sleep when still connected to server (went screwy with istat) rather than a graphics card problem. Also, since I stopped using SMC fan control I have had no kernal panics at all.

No games only work. Heavy use of Adobe. I thrash my home PC with games.

Got mine in December of 2007 I have the 128MB 8600 GTM. No problems so far, I game a lot too CoD4, Team Fortress 2, AoC, FrontLines, Source, etc...Never had any graphical issues.

My buddy with an XPS had his repaired already. I think one thing you'll notice outside this forum is, that most of the issues are occurring with HP's and Dells. Not to say that it won't happen to Macs, but I think our better fan system and aluminum casing helps. I noticed when I game the MBP fans seem beefier than the XPS fans.

I bought mine in April 2008 and have experienced no graphics problems (as yet). However, I'm not a gamer, so perhaps that influences how the notorious card works or does not. Cheers

bought mine in november 2007 and it is the 2.2ghz model. So far I haven't gotten any of the symptoms of a defective gpu. Overclocked the gpu in bootcamp to 580mhz/735mhz and still going strong with no problems. *touch wood*

Purchased May '08
No display or GPU issues.
I occationaly play steam games, COD4 and BF2.

Purchased in June '07.
Started getting kernel panics and random particles/vertical lines/artifacts all over the screen.
Rarely played video games on the MBP.

Macbook Pro currently at repair center getting a logic board replacement.

Bought my MBP in December 2007.
Never had any issues with my NVidia 8600, but I just bought AppleCare just in case.

Purchased in May '08 - 2.4ghz, Penryn, 4MB Ram

No problems what so ever

Do not play any graphic intensive games

Purchased a week ago. Specs in sig.

No problems, glitches, whatever.

Graphics Diode almost always above 70 deg C, spiking between 85-95 deg C during gaming. I run folding@home, both CPU and GPU temps run around 90 deg C during that, but fans are only at 3800 rpm (auto control)

Purchased 8/2007. Office, Web and RTS Windows games 3 to 4 times a month. Never a glitch or problem with graphics! Much as I hate ti admit it, bought Applecare to help with resale value if I decide to sell.

Cheers,

First unit MBP, Santa Rosa/Merom 2.2GHz, manufactured in February (just before the launch of Penryn refresh models), showed signs of graphical corruption after 3 months of use. Got worse at the 5th month, did a logic board exchange.

Still on the first unit, but with logic board exchange, graphic chip showed similar corruption of the previous logic board (that had been used for approx. 5 month) just after 8 hours of use. Requested for a replacement unit.

Replacement unit arrived, Santa Rosa/Merom 2.4GHz, manufactured in June, showed a different kind of graphical issue after 6 hours of use. Further usage throughout the week exposed more severe graphical corruption and system freezes.

Never really gamed a lot on these machines, most of the time are just usual iTunes, Front Row, QuickTime, and internet browsing.. with the occasional NFS:proStreet and GRID.
