I've had several bad experiences with hardware, but you have to remember, Apple's no different than any other company. They just use parts made from all over the world from every other company. You can buy a PC with windows, that is actually the same computer as your macbook pro. All Apple does is design the product and make some sweet software. None of the hardware is anything too special. So like every other computer, it may have failing parts. I'll bet you anything that PC's and Macs have the same exact part-failing ratios. Because they are the same parts. Mac just gives you a more enjoyable time before they fail :)

That's not totally true. Reliability of one laptop is also due for a big part to thé assembly and the quality of the cooling system. Points where companies like Acer makes absolute crap...

And if there's any problem, you know you CAN Count on one of the best after sale service of the industry.

True true. Obviously there's going to be some specific differences (otherwise you'd have some problems with "copying" others). I was saying for the most part. And they do have pretty good service. Like I said, Apple gives you the most enjoyable time before (and I forgot after ;) ) it fails.

I don't think there is any part of the MacBook Pro that is actually professional.

Maybe it's professionally unprofessional? ;)

1 year warranty is only for Apple, or is that standard for all products?

1 year from Apple. In the EU there is somewhat misunderstood law which states "A two-year guarantee applies for the sale of all consumer goods everywhere in the EU. In some countries, this may be more, and some manufacturers also choose to offer a longer warranty period."

Full law is here, scroll to page 7 of the word document.

Not in France too. 1 year warranty only and 3 years with Apple care.

The same is in Slovenia. The funny is for a Medion product I can get 3 years warranty in the products prize.

Apple is simply expensive. The price/performance is very bad.

Try to use your warranty with medion, Acer or Gericom craps... And come speak with me again:D

I'm coming from this PC ******** world: no assistance, no support, no software update, poor components quality, crappy screens, crappy cooling system, crappy plastics, crappy keyboard... This is definitively the price to pay to get **WONDERFUL** specs on a paper at a low price and definitively a crappy laptop for real.

What do you do with your MBP ? Lend it out to junkies to sleep with it ? My father and I have had two MBPs for over 4 years and we've never had these problems like "keyboard pad aluminum get ugly".

How many languages do you speak? If all you're going to bring to this discussion is derision of a poster's grasp of his second language then maybe you should take your little xenophobia roadshow elsewhere you ignorant prick.

i work with my macbook pro all day. that's what i do. for me a laptop have to last for 4 years at least and for the price paid this is not a 400€ acer....

Não te preocupes com estes gajos, passam-se as vezes.

Like I said above, just because you had certain issues (or many problems) with your laptop, it doesn't mean that the majority of people have the same problems. Laptops can go wrong, whatever the manufacturer. When they do, Apple makes it much easier to get a new/fixed laptop.

My Macbook Pro got into a few problems with the Logic Board. After a few faulty fixes, Apple sent me a new laptop, and gave me 1 month to return the old one.

Machines fail, and in every batch there is a rotten apple. Sounds like you had some back luck: it happens to all of us!

Patrick what you have done to have a new mac after so many failures? i'am also from Portugal. thanks

yeah but so many fails for a so expensive machine is too much. before my macbook pro i used a vaio and 0 problems after 5 years of use. I switch to mac because of software. but the hardware problems are make me crazy.

In Portugal 2000€ for a computer is too much, an average Portuguese owns 800€ for month....

did you know if the warranty cover the magsafe problems and aluminum discoloration?

thanks

I agree. It's unacceptable. Contact Apple - I have had machines replaced for this sort of thing before.

That's strictly a matter of personal opinion. In stark contrast to the standards that establish the qualifications of true professionals, such as lawyers, doctors, engineers, CPAs, etc., there are no such standards for computers. Thus, any opinion on the issue is just as valid as any other.
