Zipper + Aluminum is a no no from me. That is why I am probably gonna for the Incase magnetic sleeve.
It doesn't seem like the zipper touch the laptop since there's some form of thick inner padding between the zipper and the laptop, basing from the pictures.

I use them. It is a snug fit and very well made. I would recommend it for everyday use. But because it is not a hard case, I doubt it will protect MBP against hard drop.
Incorrect. The zipper never comes close to touching the MBP.
I'm deciding whether to get the tomtoc or the incase icon magnetic sleeve. I think both offers the same level of protection for drops so I guess i'll get the tomtoc because it's 50 AUD cheaper which I can save for getting a decent usb hub.

I did indeed, and it's awesome! I actually use it every day presently with my work laptop - which is just an X1 Yoga, but i also use it with the MBP on the weekends and stuff - fits nicely and looks great.

I’ve been using a Snugg Sleeve for my 2018 MacBook Pro 13. I love it - the quality is real nice, the stitching seems great, the fit is perfect. I put my MBP inside the sleeve and then inside my backpack when traveling. Also keep it in the sleeve when carrying it about the house so the kids don’t accidentally ding or scratch or spill something on my Macbook.

For a bag, apart from my main backpack that I use when traveling, I love this NutSac. I use it when I’m just heading to a coffee shop or somewhere for the day and don’t need much more than my MBP, it’s charger, etc. It feels very well made and I like the distressed look of it. They have several to choose from, and I got the Satchel Pro. I think it’s the perfect size.

It is a nice looking bag, to be sure, but I was turned off on the lack of padding to protect the laptop - at least from their images posted.

That’s a good point. And there are some interior pockets too, where the Macbook goes. I definitely wouldn’t use this without a sleeve as well - I always put it in the above-mentioned sleeve first, then in this bag. Protects from any scratches and provides a little protection.
You definitely don’t want to be setting this bag down hard or anything, because it does not have cushioning.

Sounds like it was designed to be similar to its namesake (I wouldn’t want to slam mine down hard on anything, and it definitely doesn’t have extra padding for protection).

Perfect timing. I ordered a skin for my iPad Pro from Slickwraps on August 21st; didn't ship until today.
They are definitely odd. I didn't even get an order confirmation email when I first ordered it.

I have this one, but for the 13”. I like it because it’s thin but still seems a decent thickness for a little drop protection. But primarily scratch protection. I put my MBP into this, and then into other backpacks or bags and don’t worry about it.

I'm kinda late, but I'm a fan of Tom Bihn. But there's an aesthetic that might not appeal to everyone (kinda "dad bag" looking") The Synapse 19 might be a great option. You might have to double check with their customer service, but my Synapse 25 has room for 2 of their "Caches" that you can get sized for all of the Mac laptops and iPads.
I like mine so much, I just ordered their "Guides Edition", mostly just because I dig the outdoorsy look.

I've had a Tom Bhin backpack and it protects my laptop quite well. I've soured on it as of late, because its just so darn large and bulky. It certainly holds a lot but its big and heavy. I'm personally wanting something simpler

May I ask which bag you had? Sounds like you're describing the Brainbag, which is huge, overtly huge, like 36 liters huge...
The Synapse 19 (19 liters) can hold 13" devices (I actually think 2 - 13" devices or smaller), and isn't what you described. But everyone has a different perspective...

It is the brain bag and it served the purpose for which I bought it for, buy my needs, and desires have changed. Its just too big/bulky. I'm really like the simplicity, and design of Waterfield designs. I'd pull the trigger on one of those if I ever stop buying apple products (like the Apple Watch)

Oh I agree completely. If I worked in a more official "office" environment, I would be all over Waterfield Design's "Bolt" in waxed canvas. But I'm too much of a bag dork to switch away from the organization of the Tom Bihn stuff...

I have a small briefcase from waterfield desigs. I think its called the cozmo, its probably 15+ years old at this point. I use that mainly.
I've also fallen out of love with backpacks, in general, so that's another reason why I'm not using the brain bag. I find something that goes over my should to work better for me.

Only one choice for me. I just bought an Incase Icon tensaerlite sleeve for my new 15in. I've had at least three of these sleeves in the past for various MacBooks - there's nothing that matches them for protection (the bumper is perfectly positioned), slim profile, and functionality (magnetic closure that still lets you charge the laptop in the case). Not expensive for what they are imho. My last MacBook took a dive from a woolnut sleeve that stretches over time and doesn't hold laptops securely - had to live with a dented corner for a long time that I wouldn't have if I'd been using the incase.

I’ve had a couple Waterfield sleeves. They are superb quality. Wouldn’t hesitate buying any of their products if it met your needs design wise.

I have a skin on my 2013 13" MBP but after reviewing the Apple store and found Tech21 Pure Clear I think I found a case I might finally like. I picked it up today from the Apple store and so far I like the feel of it and the looks. Its probably about as light as a case you can get for a 15" with some added protection.
