depends, do you wanna use the integrated card (battery life) or the dedicated (powerful)?

make sure you're running the latest version, and go into settings and make sure that it's set up correctly (make sure it's not set to pick based on being plugged in or not... unless that's how you want it to work.)

Something seems to be wrong with it. Preferences won't load. I'll try disabling and reenabling it, then rebooting.

Restarting it helped and now I can load preferences. Unfortunately, even after a reboot, although an "N" icon appears up top, I'm still seeing it as "Discrete Only" checked in the option box, no matter how many times I click "Integrated".

Which version are you using? Current version is v2.1 and when my MBP switches to discrete, a 'd' appears at the top. If your currently on a previous version, the update should fix your problem. I know for sure that the previous versions displayed an 'N'.

I have this same issue, I have had gfxCardstatus for about two months and it has never worked for me. I have v2.1 but I can never change the status it always displays an i no matter if I change it or not..

I think I figured out the issue. I had an external monitor plugged into my Macbook Pro and obviously that required the "Discrete" card (duh).

I unplugged the monitor and it seems to be working fine now.

I don't have anything plugged into mine, I got the app within the first week of buying my MBP and it has not worked for me at all. It just stays on the i icon no matter if I change it or not.

I've got a 2010 13" MBP and and only getting about 2 hours and 45 minutes out of a full charge. I am usually only using chrome, sometimes itunes and Word/Excel. Also it usually runs above 155 degrees F (68 C), right now it is at 169 degrees and is only just sitting on a table running chrome. Is there anything I should be concerned with?

No.

What are you doing while using Chrome? And go and download Coconut battery meter; what is the health of your battery?

I means integrated... does it say this even when it's on discrete? try reinstalling-sometimes it probably gets the hooks wrong.

Yeah, even if i change to discrete, the i icon is still on my comp. I have tried reinstalling and I still have the same issue.

Does anyone know what settings I should use to get an accurate benchmark relative to apple's?

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html

It states on that page up to 7 hours wireless web.
("Wireless web testing conducted by Apple in February 2011 using preproduction 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7–based 15-inch MacBook Pro units. The wireless web test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing 25 popular websites with display brightness set to 50%. Battery life varies by use and configuration. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information.")

I also checked battery health in istat pro and it is only 98% with like 6 cycles I think. I am not sure what settings the laptop should have for going to sleep or the screen turning off. I suppose default. Actually, I would suppose that this test was with constant use. Thus, the laptop did not rest to enter into sleep or to turn off the monitor.

how am I to browse the web for 7 hours straight?

I want to get an accurate test, as I was told by my school's IT department that they would run a diagnostic test and replace the battery if it met criteria.
