I've got a macbook pro 2021 that I was helping a friend with. It needed a screen repair. When I put the new screen in, I tried to turn on the mac to test it and I've been stuck in this loop ever since.

The startup chime dings, but nothing happens. Not just a dim screen, but no screen at all. Between 35 - 40 seconds later, it chimes again. And on and on. The computer never starts up and hasn't displayed anything. I hooked up the old screen, cracked but still usable, and I'm getting the same problem.

I noticed in the corner that one of the ribbon cables for the touch bar is ripped. I really didn't think I did it, but no one else has been inside the computer and it was working before so I must have nicked it opening the case. Other than that, everything looks perfectly normal. Everything is attached like it should be.

For reference, I disconnected the battery when I opened it, but that wouldn't be helpful if I clipped it while opening the case.

Here is what I've tried,
Reseting PRAM and all the other keyboard combinations
Tried putting the old display back
Disconnected both touch bar cables
*edit* hooked up to an external screen and it was still black
*edit* while trying to confirm connections, I pulled the plug for the fan control and sent the fan spinning at 100% so I'm assuming I haven't done anything to fry the cpu.

Any ideas on what the startup chime is trying to tell me? I assume it wants me to know that the touchbar isn't working, but why would that prevent the entire computer from booting up? Any advice would be appreciated.

Why didn't your friend go thru Apple for a screen replacement? As to the reboot loop, it can be anything. Unsure unless there is visual. Also, have you tried using an external monitor to see what's going on?

This is not a visual at all. 100% black screen. I hooked up to an external monitor (will add to the original post) and got a blank screen there as well so I don't believe it to be related to the new display.

It appears that the computer is either not booting up at all or not starting up the system.

I would suggest you take it to Apple then. There seems something else is cause the issue.
Obviously that is the last resort, but if someone here had a useful suggestion, I would like to give it a try first. I don't mind replacing the touch bar cable if that is the only thing wrong, but I have a hard time believing the whole computer would refuse to boot over that. So I'm just looking for some advice from someone who may have encountered this before or knows of something I can try that I haven't tried yet.
