The first actual shot amongst all the rumors. Strange that Apple isn't holding an event though. Appears as though we are viewing the upper-left case where the screen would meet the bottom case.

I'm going to get some measurements assuming the keyboard is the same length as that found in the MBA.

CAPS LOCK KEY = 1.25"

MBA FROM CAPSLOCK TO RETURN = 10.75"
IMPOSED CAPSLOCK KEYS FROM CAPSLOCK TO EDGE OF CASING X BOTH SIDES = 5"

The bottom casing is 10.75"+5.00" = 15.75"

The MBA screen-enclosure (measured diagonally) to bottom-case ratio is 15" to 13"

That ratio applied to 15.75" would suggest 18.17" accomodate for the fact that screens NEED some border and we have a 2-inch reduction.

The NEW Macbook 'Brick' will have the rumored 16" screen. TRUE 16:9 resolution!

I haven't read the whole thread, sorry if someone already answered it.

Your "proof" have several weaknesses. For one, you cannot say anything about diagonal just by having the width, without knowing the ratio. You need to have at least two of those: width, depth, diagonal and ratio, to deduce any of the others. That leads us to another detail you seem to have overlooked: Air's screen ratio is 16:10. You'd surely lose at least some precision if you based your prediction on a differently proportioned screen, don't you think? That's even skipping all the lost precision from your measurement of an angled image...

And the last but not the least: did it never worry you that your result implies 16" in a notebook of 15.75" width, while current 17" MBP is 15.4" wide?

so you are saying that the display will be based on the buttom case part...
I think you are right cause i see no display base part on that foto....

It would have to cause based on this pic the depth from the top of keyboard is close to the edge. and if the profile of the computer has to be shorter front (cause of the change to 16:9) then you would have to save it somewhere.

Plus a straight clean line there instead of the "L-arm" bracket at the bottom of current screens. It coulod form the whole back side and pivot within its own enclosure instead of in the spacial of the computer (base)

Look at how happy people are.

One pic makes people smile how amazing.:D

p.s Steve Jobs doesn't care about what you want or how you feel. He puts his pants on TWO legs at a time.;)

When is this from?!?! :D

they HAVE to have the 16:9 aspect ratio......APPLE will not fall behind...everything is going to be widescreen soon.

At least the PRO's should be

I figured out the dimensions.

Firstly, the "brick" reference is NOT manufacturing (e.g. machined from a block of aluminium). "Brick" mainly refers to structure (build quality) and is taken from a song written in 1977 by The Commodores, title "Brick House". I wont go into the details of this song, but within its lyrics we find the dimensions of this Macbook to be 36-24-36.

So its safe to assume the new macbooks will be mighty mighty? and possibly letting it all hang out?

The wrapping material of the MacBook Air is Plastic and not foam. Maybe greener MacBooks and much more greener package?

That would suck. I hate 16:9 for a laptop. Lots of people do more than watch movies on a laptop. I suppose as long as they don't gimp on the verticle resolution, i.e. less than 1050 or 900, it'd be okay.

On the picture my guess is that the ports are: Ethernet - FW800 - 2x USB - mini DVI - Jacks

mini dvi because it has the same dimensions and the icon next to it appears to be like this

And what do you need north south display when all programs scroll. And you could stack two windows side by each? I personally never full screen, and use the rest of the space for others stuff. So wider gives you more real-estate on the screen. And you lose only .5 inch in height, sounds good to me.

Yes but that connector in this picture is BIGGER than a usb port.

if you look at the speaker vents, I think the design here is not the same as what we are used too. They are A LOT smaller. It's to prevent things (crumbs) from falling in, cause its actually a vent for the internals now. And acts like a speaker sheet, can probably conduct sound better as it is thinner and has less material to use, so it is less inhibited from allowing the sound out.

Duel purpose design, I love
