What I don't quite understand is why, after managing to obtaining a new product, these people only ever take one, incredibly obscure photo...

That would suck. I hate 16:9 for a laptop. Lots of people do more than watch movies on a laptop. I suppose as long as they don't gimp on the verticle resolution, i.e. less than 1050 or 900, it'd be okay.

16:9 is AWESOME and used for SO MUCH MORE than watching movies

maybe they dont really have time to take a great photo because they are NOT SUPPOSED to be taking it:)

Question-
If the new MBPs have this "brick" design/manufacturing process then how can it be opened up? How will I or the Apple TECHNICIANS for that matter be able to open it up to replace the hard drive, optical drive, memory, etc . . . ?

If I won't open the next MBP up I will need to buy the current MBP.

Some people want to show a quick shot they look not carefully but quickly. Personally I like it, as it makes me (with help from the herb i'm on and the dj shadow I'm listening to right now) think of the design principle and method/techniques employed. I've worked in factories and have a keen interested in manufacturing technology (Formula 1) so this is a sexy shot. Shows a good perspective of profile and top.

as anyone can obviously see, The bottom comes off.

Have fun with your black chicklet keyboards!

Penryn = the best!

I'm not buying a new laptop until they are 8-core. Snow Leopard should provide enough of a speed boost to last me several more years.

So, the new MacBook Pro is still going to look similar to the current MacBook Pro. Interesting. :D

read my other three posts, but its not a close one piece its a top one peice that curves down at sides. the bottom would 90% open except some area in the front. The screen would close off the back side and the bottom would be finished by a flat battery like the air, but removable, it would comprise 90% of the bottom (disperse heat?)

I am not sure that Penrin is "the best", but it is a great platform and not worth dumping for the latest and greatest! I am using a PM G4 trying to decide what Macbook Pro to buy right now.. I may wait until Tuesday, but no longer. The current models are faster than my outgoing Macbook 1.83 C2D, and have the resolution I need for photography.

If it is as revolutionary as "the brick" makes it seem...it makes sense for Apple to hold an event...that's why I call fake on new manafacturing process UNTIL..they announce the event..

It would be awesome though..

Just like the IPHONE, competitors would be light years behind

The pic is fake... proved by:

Article Rick!

You bastard :p

About the case though... doesn't anyone realise that without the plastic surround at the edges of the old PowerBook / MB Pro their case would be scratched and dented? I take care of my laptop but the edges on mine have some small dings and scratches in them... and I reckon a fully aluminium corner or edge would be far less forgiving. Boo-urns

I would be surprised to find the laptop casing in the picture to be aluminum, seems more like plastic to me due to the wavy reflection of light in the upper left. Aluminum, especially machined aluminum (or precision CNC cut aluminum, which I've worked with) is very flat and would give off a much less distorted reflection (even with clearcoat on it) -- so I for one am not convinced yet about the this representing the aluminum 'brick' version.

i'm fairly sure the casing just has a removable protective plastic film over it, like you find on a lot of electronics these days... notice the distorted bit in the left is actually a crease between the different pieces of plastic film.

Don't forget the Storm, BB are not far behind in anything except apples name/screen. That machine will be good, trust me I've seen it. It sounds ridiculous but I lived in Waterloo this summer and a friend who worker there testing then (actually his job was to drop and break them all day) showed it to me. He had the flip one too, months before it was released. They had to delay release longer than hoped cause they lacked response in the screen so they changed it and now its really good.

Any chance the screen can rotate and lock back over the keyboard for a multi-touch-style tablet?

while we're all dreaming, why not?

Care to explain what you can do on a 16:9 that you can't do on a 16:10?

16:10 advantages:

Higher resolution for the same ppi and "
More vertical resolution
Higher resolutions for 1280·x, 1920·x, and 2560·x
Wider range of resolutions (as of now), including high-res 15.4" 1920·1200
17", 20", and 24" displays have higher resolutions (both ways) than 16", 18.4", and 21" 16:9 displays

16:9 advantages:

Wider so no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies
Wider so easier to display two things side-by-side
Cheaper panels
High-res 13.1" 1600·900 panel has no 13" 16:10 equivalent
Can fit a full-size keyboard in a smaller display size
16", 18.4", and 21" displays are physically wider than 15", 17", and 20" 16:10 displays for similar heights

The benefits are in apples favor.....ALSO....they want to be the king of all media...

I actually beleive the BB Storm will be the only true competitor for a while....all in all however, it is going to keep Apple on their toes and work hard on the next Gen...

actually no, this new idea would be the one piece is the shell as well as the frame. The new ones are really thin, this new would have to be thicker and is. look at it compared the shell of a MBP (I have one) they ding cause they are thin. This one has to be structural too, it is slightly less likely to dent. Look at how hard it is to break a gen 1 ipod mini, the round edge aluminium, this is impossible to bend without excessive force.
