I've got a matte. I had a glossy in a previous PC and just didn't enjoy it as much.

Of course, it's all preference, but I've always thought matte had more advantages.

I despise glossy screns. Its on of the reasons that I got a Pro and not a normal MacBook. I haven't gotten it yet, but from comparing them, its not worth it.

The glossy are also a pain in the butt to clean...

I went back and forth for months when I was getting ready to buy my MBP. I eventually went with Glossy and couldn't be happier. I was a bit nervous about glare after reading all the posts and actually seeing the glare in the apple store. Bringing it home I definitely made the right choice, the glossy screen is beautiful and in my apartment I honestly don't see the slightest bit of a glare. You should really evaluated the environment you work in most and then make a decision from there. If you can get away with the glossy go for it, if you work outside or in areas with downward focused lighting, as opposed to lamps that reflect lighting upwards, then go with the matte screen cause the glare will annoy you every time you look at the screen and you'll hate yourself for choosing glossy.

enjoy.

Its like Coke vs. Pepsi

Coke.

Matte.

I think it depends what you're coming from. I came from a PowerBook 12" to the 15" MBP and kept Matte. The screen is so bright - the colours aren't as vivid as on the MacBook's glossy screen, but at least I can always see the screen without seeing myself at the same time.

I have been on Matte for some time. But I feel like trying glossy next time around...

I have a ACD/Spyder for accurate colors and operate in clamshell mode.

Only thing I do away from my desk is iWork and web browsing.

The Glossy seems more forgiving as far as cleaning products as its sorta a protective layer on the LCD/LED.

what is "Clamshell" mode?

clamshell is when you connect to an external display and shut your laptop closed...

oohhhh okaay i got it,

BTW did anyone see Kung Fu Panda LOLOLOL i just came back from the theater and it was GREAT! must see movie
AWESOME CGI!

You could get a matte MBP & a cheap glossy external display-- best of both worlds maybe?? (I tried to do this but the external display I ordered turned out to be a matte finished one :( lol.)

If I no longer own the original box, is there any way to find out what type of screen I own? I'm quite sure it is a matte, but I would like to find out.

Also, how do I find out what brand made my screen? I remember there was discussion that Samsung and LG made the screens, and LG was better?

Look at the monitor while it is off. If you can see your reflection, it's glossy.

I have been struggling with this decision for the past couple weeks as I am planning on making a purchase soon. Although this is certainly a matter of personal preference, here are my thoughts and observations:

Matte:
My currrent Toshiba laptop and Samsung desktop monitor are both matte. I don't use the laptop outside often, but I do use it in a variety of lighting conditions. Matte screens do get a little washed out when light is shining directly on them.

Glossy:
My intial reaction to the glossy screen was the sharpness of the screen and eye-candy factor. I also noticed the reflection of what was behind me on the screen.

Comparison:
My local Apple store had a 15" MBP in both matte and glossy right next to each other, so it was very easy to compare them side by side. There was very bright but diffused lighting on the wall directly behind me, bright and diffused lighting overhead, and bright and sharp track lighting overhead. I opened nytimes.com on both laptops, as the black text on a white background is what I deal with for most office applications. My first thought was that the reflections in the glossy screen would be distracting. When I started reading the text, however, I was surprised. As soon as I stopped focusing on the reflections and reading the text, I didn't notice the glare and the text was very sharp and easy to read. I then did the same on the matte screen. It was much like my Toshiba laptop where you cannot see details in the lighting behind you, but the bright spots did wash out the text enough to make it harder to read than the glossy.

Neither type had any significant advantage or disadvantage and any screen will have to be adjusted slightly when using in changing light conditions. I found that I did prefer the glossy in both diffuse and direct lighting, much to my surprise. So, I will be ordering a glossy MBP soon if I can convince myself that I have chance of not having the LED and keyboard issues plaguing these laptops.

I got matte because I didn't like the glare from the glossy screen. I do a lot of graphic design and photo editing.

I've had both glossy and matte.

To be perfectly honest, I find the matte screen better for doing serious work of any kind, for long hours. Text, photos, video.

The glossy is pretty, no denying it that. But for work, I found it lacking. But watching movies and playing games on the glossy, it really shines there.

Comparing both side to side, the glossy has nicer, more vibrant colors, but, after a few long hours, you'll appreciate the matte.:) just my 2 cents.
