    Hi there,

Upgraded my 2009 Macbook Pro with a SSD and extra 4 GB of ram. Since then, every time I put my computer under load it restarts, (eg. watching a youtube video). Happens as often as every 2 minutes when hot. I reinstalled the OS and upgraded to El Capitan and the problem persists. Really have no idea what the problem is. Any assistance would be great. Also, pressing and holding "D" on startup brings me to a blank grey screen for 1 min, then continues to regular boot, and holding Option+D doesn't do anything so I can't bring up the memtest tools.

    Heres the error report:

The kernel panic report doesn't really specify what's going on, however, since you added memory, that would be my first suspect. Remove the new modules and replace them with the originals and see if the KPs stop. There's also a chance that the SSD you installed may not be compatible.

I had similar issues with my newer rMBP just a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a faulty memory module. I used Apple's Hardware Test - it diagnosed the problem; Apple fixed it under my AC warranty. On your older Mac, you'll need the Diagnostics app built into your Mac.

Read this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731 - it might help you figure it out.

Do you have Soundflower installed by any chance? If so try uninstalling it.

Put the original RAM back in, then reboot.

    What happens now?

Like others have said, check the RAM modules first. As another possible problem - is all done properly with the install of the SSD? I ask only that you mention "hot" in your original post. I have zero knowledge on your model of Mac but how does it measure heat of the drive? If there is a heat sensor, has it been properly attached or ...? If you don't know, you may want to install something like smcFANcontrol and set it to run at varying speeds to see if it cools down your Mac sufficiently.

Thanks all, the memory was the cause. I'm back to my original 2 GB (2x1 GB sticks). Will test out the other sticks individually so I hopefully can have more than 2 GB lol. Thanks again.
