You'll definitely want the guards of some sort. Even if they replace the top now, it'll keep happening.

The 3 visible dots are in line with the edge of the battery. LiPO batteries may expand if damaged (which can happen a number of ways that one can not see) Actually LiPO batteries expand approx 5% when fully charged. I am curious as to what your laptop looks like with the battery installed and removed.

Do you wear a watch?

If so...does your watch scratch over the mbp at the point the dots are?

I have a watch with a steel thingy on it...and I just know it's gonna scratch my MBP so I won't wear a watch when im using the MBP...

:)

Now that you mention it, they do line up with the edge of the battery. Do you think it's that or a combination of both perspiration and the battery expanding? I don't notice any change in the size of the laptop with battery the way it is. Think I should call the Genius Bar and point it out to them? I think the perspiration could loosen the paint or whatever is cracking and the expanding top casing due to the battery could be causing the expansion.

Anyways, I went to my appointment as scheduled, the technician said they don't usually cover problems like the one I have but that he would make an exception. I'll be bringing my laptop in on Saturday and I'll hopefully have it back before Monday.

And for the second time, NO, I don't wear a watch, ever! The technician asked that too... ._.

May I suggest MOSHI palmguard and trackpad film? It's the best palmrest protection I've come across: blends in perfectly with not large and ugly logo, provides an almost hard surface protection and doesn't wear out. beats the pants off marware for quality. And the company is really good to deal with too.

Ditto. I have the Moshi Palmguard for my MBP and it is great! I put it on the first week I owned it to hopefully prevent scratching. I also have a trackpad and mouse key film cover. It comes with the Moshi. To go all out, add the iSkin keyboard protector and you should be good to go!

Any stories about such products melting onto the laptop while it overheats? Hasn't been much of an issue for me yet, but I always want to be sure.

Besides, does your Macbook Pro look dorky after you put everything on it?

And, um, do you think bribing someone at the store could get my product repaired quicker?

Lol unless youre really lucky or have some sort of gorgeous woman to entice a male MacGenius, highly doubt it.

its a first come first serve basis, they put all systems into a queue and depending on when thye receive parts thats when it will get done.
it just depends on how fas the parts arrive and the queue of the store.

You wont notice the normal expansion of the battery. However if a LiPo is damaged, they can swell up considerably. The MBP case is very very strong and rigid. Ive seen a battery swell to about 2x its size, but the battery stayed in and puffed the keyboard and top up and out. If the battery happens to have swelled too much it is a fire hazard. There is a whole dang explanation as to why this can happen, especially if the MFG used a cheaper die process for the batteries. But to me it looks like 3 screws starting to protrude out of the case? Is it just cosmetic or can you feel any thing on those 3 dots? Either way, get it checked out by Apple, not us;)

They already have the replacement part. It's reserved for me until I bring it into the store over the weekend. Gee, I wish I had a gorgeous woman to bring with me. I don't think my friends would appreciate being used like that though.

Ah well, hey, screws coming up from inside the laptop would make sense. I'm guessing the entire top casing is expanding and cracking along the way. Because honestly, it has to be that or else it's a huge coincidence that three of these dots happened to almost perfectly line up. I'll call the store and ask them about it.

All I can feel are the lack of a surface along the three major dots.

Update 3/8/08

I called the Apple Store at 9 AM to let them know I'd be bringing my Macbook Pro in for servicing. I was told on Wednesday by a "Genius" that if I brought it in on Saturday that I could get it back on Sunday and on time for school/work. Turns out I was lied to! If I brought it in right now, I'd have to wait 6 days to get it back, which is one day shy of a full week. Kick in the teeth, isn't it?

Tell me, if I can't even get the truth out of Mac Geniuses, you know, those wonderful, smiling people behind the Genius Bar, who am I going to get it from? This is so freaking annoying! I really expected better. Cheers!

I have black dots on my palmrest.. I just noticed them a few weeks ago too.

My whole case is falling apart though, my next laptop will definitely be a blackbook!

So what is the verdict?

Nearly a week later I got a phone call(this morning) from the Apple store and I was told if I brought it in right away that it would be back to me within an hour or two. With that being said, I have to wonder what really caused this change in time before getting my Macbook Pro back.

As pleasing as it is, I'm still skeptical!

Skeptical look for the win! I must admit though, this 24 inch iMac is certainly good looking!
