You can do.

I would meet somewhere public and busy to do the deal. It would be nice to check the computer first but he may insist if you open it and it is fine then you buy it as it's sealed. Seems fair to me if he does but you are commiting at that point.

This is good advice. Tell him ahead of time you'll buy it, but it needs to be opened and inspected before any cash changes hands. I bought an iPad Air from a guy awhile ago, who claimed it "new and sealed" with Apple Care +. I told him what I wrote above, and after checking out the iPad and setting it up, I paid him. It's been working great for many months, and the warranty checked out with Apple.

Did you do any deals with him? I live "near" and might buy one from him as well.

I haven't decided yet. I have talked to him and he said he only had one left. Price and the time $2150 is the best price. Lol please don't take it. Just kidding. I believe it's $2100 now.

Nice deal!

He seem pretty reputable, he claims he sells a lot of 13" retina's 256GB

Should I ask for his id just to check if he's legit when meeting?
You shouldn't really need his ID - the concern is more, if he's selling a lot of these, where is he getting them from and why is he using Craigslist to sell in bulk? That is to say, are the machines stolen?

I can't see them being stolen. There at the same near similar price as others. One in Reno $2300. But at the same time I don't know.

For such high amount meet at police station lobby. Police won't mind, at least here.

Few years back I sold my Mac Pro desktop) with monitor keyboard etc at Starbucks.

What should I do if I meet in the police station, just meet there or talk to the police for his id to check his background?

or meet at an local Apple Store?

Who would want to give out their ID to have their background checked just to sell a freaking laptop?
Seriously guys, you are making it more complicated than it needs to be.
Just go to an Apple store if he agrees and do a check for the serial number to verify it has not been reported stolen and if it checks good, pay the guy and go enjoy your new machine.

Go to station to check out laptop and exchange monies at safe place.

Hand write bill of sale both parties sign. Provide seller name address and drivers lic number.

That way in rare case the laptop is stolen and traced to you you will not be charged down the line.

I've never met at the police station before. I usually meet in a public place, when I buy a used iPhone, I usually meet at the Apple store to check if it was originally factory unlocked from Apple. I have bought one used Mac, in fact just this year! A Mid 2012 retina, that had ghosting, I've gone to several Apple Stores and all rejected! After a few months of use I've noticed 7 Dead Pixels and 1 burst, brought it into the Apple Store to check for dead pixels with his magnifying glass, 1 day later I've noticed it had lots of scratches all over the screen, the next day I brought it into the Apple Store, and they replaced the screen free of charge. So now my mac is pretty much okay, On the other hand, I'm not to sure about my gpu, I've had lines going across the screen before, extreme lag in iMovie, with small lines appearing on the screen, but when I bring it into the Apple Store, they say the GPU is perfectly fine, they claim its my beta software, I don't think it was, keep in mind its NOT EL CAPTAIN, I've never experienced anything like this. It all started when I was using my Macbook for a year end school movie project, it ran pretty smooth when photoshopping everything appeared to be working fine for our yearbook! Till I was working on the movie part, the computer always ran hot, fine, but burning hot, like it can burn someone. Sorry if it was to lengthy. Plus my Mac went up in price well maybe. Well plus a new lid is a good selling point!
