Lol! I think we're the only ones on this board that actually like the MacBook Pro... I put my order for the 15" MBP too!
No kidding!

From Apple's website:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to your MacBook with USB-C port or MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports for syncing and charging.
You can also use this cable with your Apple 29W, 61W, or 87W USB-C Power Adapter to charge your iOS device, and even take advantage of the fast-charging feature on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
The MacBook Pro has no port to charge your iPhone. Additionally there is no lightning port for you to listen to headphones that are compatible with an iPhone 7.
You are right, my bad, must have mis read when the cable first came out. In that case i think the only cable/port issue from my perspective is the whole lightning/headphone thing, cant get my head around what would be the most convenient way to use a pair of non-wireless headphones with both iphone 7 and macbook...
yes, yes, wireless is the future, but seems crazy that you cant use the headphones supplied with an iphone 7 on your macbook. Not even sure its possible with adaptors to connect lightning headphones to the mac.
All you people who think wireless is the future in pro audio also, have you ever tried to record anything with bt-heaphones on you? The delay is devastating. How many bt-headphones support low-delay profile?Yes, and I totally agree with Apple on that one. I think it is dinosaur tech and tech companies have been sleeping their lazy ass far too long on this one. And I don't think it's about lighting to earphones, it's about totally wireless and can't wait to be wire free. Don't give a toos about so called professionals with their big statements saying how 3.5 is so great. I am all up for wireless if it sounds good on my ears, and not having to spend hours untangling wires is a huge bonus for me.
Oh well, now you have to buy Apple Pencil to use your iphone's headphones with a mac!No, except for the adapter that comes with the Apple Pencil. My point is that you can get a cable that is identical to the standard Lightning cable except that it has a USB-C connector on the other end instead of a USB-A connector.
How glossy are those displays? Professionally glossy?More proof that people are sheep ...
The Wide Color displays on the new MacBook Pros support 10-bit color, including 10-bit Wide Color.
The two "wide color" LG Ultrafine Displays announced yesterday also support the same.
This is actually THE BIG NEWS from yesterday, but missed by ALL the so-called Experts !
10-bit = 1.07B colors, vs 8-bit = 16.8M colors.
Your statistics aren't very global, are they?90% of Pro photographers I work with are shooting XQD and CFFast cards.
Sincerely a pro photographer.
Yes the new MacBook has a 3.5mm audio jack, just after Apple got done telling everyone last month the 3.5mm jack is a 50 year old Dinosaur technology and should be abandoned.
Part of Apple's justification for removing the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone was their claim that the sound quality for Lightning connected headphones is far superior, which is total garbage as evidenced by the fact that ultra high end headphones used by professional audio engineers and DJs all use a wired (3.5mm or 6.35mm) connection, but I will concede Apples "Lighting quality" claim for the moment to make my point.
Apple, through the comments/speeches/interviews of their senior executives, makes forward looking statements of future trends to influence consumer buying decisions. By telling people the 3.5mm is a Dinosaur and removing it from the iPhone while touting Lightning connected headphones as far superior, some consumers follow that "recommendation".
So following Apple's comments last month that the 3.5mm connector is a Dinosaur and Lighting is far superior, some consumers started to purchase Lighting connected headphones (no I am not talking about the free Lightning earbuds included with the iPhone 7).
Now those people who just purchased these so-called high quality Lighting connected headphones can't use them on the new MacBook because Apple's claim of "courage" to remove the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone apparently did not include removing the 3.5mm jack from the new MacBook in favor of a Lighting connector. Since there is no USB-C (male) to Lighting (female) adapter, those fancy new Lighting connected headphones are now totally useless with the new MacBook.
All you people who think wireless is the future in pro audio also, have you ever tried to record anything with bt-heaphones on you?
To me it's totally logical to say that phone has less room for some connector than laptop.Leave the 3.5mm on the entire Apple line. There are plenty of companies that have created water resistant phones with a 3.5mm jack (iPhone 7 is not water proof its water resistant) so the water resistant argument is bogus and does not compromised their design.
But since Apple told the world the 3.5mm jack is totally obsolete, a piece of dinosaur garbage, should be completely abandoned, and they had the courage to remove it from the iPhone, let's see that courage now by removing it from the MBP. But they won't remove it from the MBP because they know wired headphones are prolific and will continue to have wide ranging use for many years to come. Virtually all professional audio engineers, DJs, etc. still used wired headphones because they are better, don't have to be recharged and can be easily used across a variety of equipment.
I'm also talking about mobility. We are talking about mobile platform (you know, things that you move from A to B) and not fixed recording studio, which I wouldn't give a toss what they use to record. And even there, it would be a matter of time before technology catches up. There will be always new and improved ways that will evolve and change the way we connect things. It baffles me how people think that old technologies like 3.5mm jack will continue to used on the future where even the most advanced technology we have at the moment doesn't have a guaranteed seat.

Your statistics aren't very global, are they?
Pro meaning earning their living, not being the highest earning 0,1% of pro photographers.
How are the employed people going to be able to afford this?
A maxed to the max spec MacBook Pro has always been £2600 Uk.
Suddenly it's £3500?
And £50 per adapter to connect it to anything?
That's a bout £200 in adapters before you start and then you have to rem, ever to lug them about with you.
I did.Reading comprehension 101 ... ready?
90% of Pro photographers I work with are shooting XQD and CFFast cards.
See that crucial bit I highlighted for you?
I did.
I'm trying to highlight to others in this discussion, that SD card is probably most important memorycard globally for pro photography AND videography. You telling about your friends did not address this.
To me it's totally logical to say that phone has less room for some connector than laptop.
But I'm wondering when Apple takes the BIG step and puts usbC to iOS devices?
Or do they protect their sandbox (=ecosystem) infinitely with lightning?
There is something really strange in Apple with these connections. They market ipadPro as mbp-replacement, but there's no efficient and fast way to input video or audio data to that device. But for the first time Apple's flagship laptop has only industrywide adopted standard connections. With magical price...That is a good question, I don't know the answer, but I do not like that Apple has a conflicting connection standard across their product line. Remove 3.5mm from iPhone, but keep it on laptops and does that mean the 3.5mm jack will be removed from the iPad and iPod. Leave lighting on iPhone and iPad but use USB-C on laptops. I will add that I like lighting over USB-C for its ease of connection, meaning, it's reversible and there is a nice solid "click" when you make connection.
