some kids have parents with money. must be nice

I could ask my parents the money too, or get a job, but ~$6000 on a light gaming / browsing the web computer?

I don't think I would ever buy a laptop over $1500, and if I do, it better be good. Who knows though, maybe in college I might. (I'm in high school right now :) )

I thought most people who bought computers over $2500 were using them because they could pay it off quickly and their income depended on the speed of their work

The OP also says that he has a few years of high school left. I can only imply that he is in the 9th or 10th grade. Correct me if I am wrong, but this doesn't seem very wise.

Im still sitting with my AMD 9950 BE, 4gb DDR2 800mhz RAM, and 512mb 8800GT, 2 year old and still perfectly fine for light gaming, especially WoW. The whole system cost like £400 (roughly $600) and us brits get overcharged by a huge amount, so god only knows what you americans can get for that price 2 years down the line!

It sounds like this kid is just maxing out the specs of random PCs/Macs and posting them onto here just to get attention  Honestly, I'm surprised he isn't maxing out a Mac Pro and posting the specs on here.

Hint to OP: Go on Alienware's website and max out the Area-51. Then post the price and specs on here... that'll get you a LOT of attention.

But if this kid is actually for real: I built my own PC back in 2008. Cost me $386 USD ($4000HKD). 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo (E7300), 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT, DVD-RW drive, Asus mobo, 500W PSU, all in a cheapass case. Still works today, and for light gaming this thing does the job. Add $100 for a cheap Acer screen (19", WXGA+) and you're set. I'm pretty sure you can get something more powerful these days (this is a 2 year old rig!)

It'll do WoW (well, any decent PC can), Crysis (although at low settings) and CoD MW2 (medium settings). I still regularly use it for GTA IV and EFLC, which it handles brilliantly at medium to high settings.

Here are my two final choices:

The 15 inch MBP stated in a previous post

actually, i am 100% serious, for me this is a once in a lifetime freebie from a charitable organization (prefer not to say). I get one thing, not two cheap things, one thing. So I have decided on the MBP with entry level settings(aside from the High res display and cinema display) but i am still having trouble deciding on the 15 or 17.

Go for the i7, since the video card in it has 512mb memory as opposed to 256mb. For most games, that won't make a difference, but a few of the ones you listed it shall.

If you game, don't get a mac pure and simple. You are better of with a windows laptop, something like my N61JQ from Asus which handles most games with good settings.
