What made you do that ?

Maybe he was impressed by the early reports of the new Kaby Lake Razer Blade which sound like they have better battery life and lower fan noise (one of the main complaints about the Skylake models). For someone who does want to do a lot of gaming the Blade definitely makes more sense.

I owned an iMac which I heavily gamed on for about a year. Then it died a horrible death.

Edit:

My point is that if you want to game, dropping 2k+ for really ****** gaming hardware is not a wise decision.

Reading the title, one sentence comes to mind, and that is, "You're buying it wrong."

If gaming is the first and major criteria, there are plentiful other options as you know and many have suggested. MacBooks are work laptops first, gaming a possibility, not a designed for.

Like some other posters have said, if you're just doing light gaming (WoW and Hearthstone) the MacBook Pro should suit you just fine, especially if you've "always wanted a Mac computer." But don't expect to play games like Fallout 4 on high settings at a high fame rate. Also, the GPU in the new Macbook Pro isn't very future-proof as PC system requirements rise every year. Again, not too big a deal if you're a light gamer anyway.

If you just really, really want a Macbook (it sounds like you do), then go for it. I don't think you'll satisfy that itch until you get one. But really consider your options and consider what is important TO YOU. It may be games, or it may be the hardware and software. You decide.

One exception might be if you are willing to spend the money on an external GPU, as you can currently use them with Windows via Bootcamp. You would kill two birds with one stone here, with what is often earlier/better developer support via Win 8/10, and a more capable GPU that is better suited to push those high frame rates on such an insanely high resolution screen. Even more so if you are driving one or two hi-res externals, something like a GTX 1080 is what will make high-res, high-detail, high-framerate gaming viable. If going this route, I would recommend the 2.9 CPU to get every ounce of processing power you can get, as the CPU would likely then become the bottleneck given the specs of the other components. While an external GPU would be expensive, it still might be less than buying a second rig just for gaming?
That's a great suggestion. Though you may be surprised as I was recently. You lose about ~30% (can't remember the exact number) performance using external GPU's rather than internal GPU's, even when using Thunderbolt 3. I couldn't believe it when I watched this video a couple of days ago. Here it is, if you're curious.

Ok tbh

One thing playing on my mind is thar macbook has ddr3 and 6th gen intel and a sub par compared to other laptops graphic card......

It will last long but is not future proof

As much as i hate razer customer service thier computers have better components and it looks like a mac.... i like to play games and razer can handle any and mac is more productive and i domt do any video editing... macbook looks beautfil but for the price a razer is better only if they made thier customer service better it be great

Tbh it was the graphic card

For me fan issues isnt much problem i just want to be ABLE to game nicely when i want

Another thing

Lets say i have razer 2016... it has ddr4, gtx 1060, intel i7 6700hq

Razer 2017 has ddr4, gtx 1060 and intel 7700q

So if the 2017 came out id b like naaa its nearly identical money well spent...

Gaming is same on both

do you really have ant regrets about your mac? gaming wise?
No regrets at all. Like you I really only play WoW which it handles with aplomb, but other people report it plays most games reasonably well.

I needed to get a new Mac - I also use it professionally to write software using XCode & Android Studio. I also do music stuff with Logic as a hobby. My previous 2009 17" MBP still works fine, but is too slow now, and can't run Sierra.

iv seen people rung ta on medium with some high settings on 460 with like 35-48 fps

I am not into gaming, but when I scroll down Facebook or 9gag, there is something like a 60 fps master race. I don't know. 35 seems pretty low.

I use my devices for work, but I like Nintendo. My Joga friend have an Nintendo and it is funny to play stuff on it with a bottle of wine sometimes.

okay thanks for the info that does save $200
[doublepost=1487593865][/doublepost]
see that what thing i do like the fact that the computer wont have any problems
This video from another thread here on using an external GPU, pretty nice but not Worth the money.

lol ok...nintendo is finished

I went with the base 15".

I already had a Akitio box and used the money i saved (200 dollar) to buy a used gtx 1060 desktop. I never have seen the point in having a beefy laptop if ur using it on the go. I rarely game when im not home, then i dont need the power of the 460 over the 450.

A lot of this have game me a lot to think about, I am still confused but I been on steam and look up a lot of the games or Mac vs windows and all these high end games that everyone talks about I don't play or even have any plans on playing but yet the option of not having it bug me. I am still confused between a Razer or a Mac. I don't want a desktop as i just don't have the room for it in my room my desk is just prefect for a laptop

You could buy an MSI, ASUS, or a Sager with a 1060 Pascal, 2 hard drives, core i7 and 16 gb ram that would be perfect for 1080p gaming. Don't buy a Mac for gaming, if you must have portability, get an entry level gaming laptop with a 1060 6gb, and an entry MacBook. You can get them starting for around 1,300 dollars for a decently specked one, The 1050/50ti's are not true gaming machines.

I know how much money I can save but the only gaming laptop I would get would be a razer because I love how thin and how nice looking they are but the whole thing is that I never had a Mac and ALWAYS wanted one I know it is not the best investment trust me I know the new razer I was looking at witch is QHD and 1tb is only $2799 vs the MacBook witch is $3499

I'm more of a function over form kinda of a guy myself when it comes to computers, post-pc is different. Regardless this is an Apple enthusiast site. A lot of people here wouldn't buy a gaming laptop with a 20 foot pole, just because it's running Microsoft Windows. You'll definitely get more bang for your buck with the Razer windows PC, but you're still paying a premium for both products, since they both focus more on form factor, vs best bang for buck. Regardless a 1,500 ASUS, or whatever will still be leaps and bounds better build quality wise, vs the 400 dollar walmart/Target budget laptops you see at the store.

Seriously you really should consider a desktop for gaming and a Retina MacBook for on the go. Spending $3K to game on a notebook/laptop make for little sense, unless the money presents no issue. If you must buy portable for gaming, go for one of the big 17" dedicated gaming notebooks with adequate cooling. A thin & light portable will absolutely suffer from thermal shock which directly reduces longevity, hence why Apple has opted for a 35W dGPU TDP as cooling is everything in a high power portable.

Bottom line is; in comparison to Windows based hardware they don't make for good gaming platforms, unless you're casual gamer. AAA games will only ever require faster hardware, a desktop you will likely just swap out the GPU('s) at 12-24 months, a notebook you will need to find another $3K...

Q-6

Hey guys, I've been trying to play WoW on my 15" TB Pro and cannot get past the mouse acceleration? I'd even go as far as to say it's unplayable doing anything more than playing around casually. On the bright side the machine handles it great and I have the 460.

DDR3 vs DDR4 is a wash... really no performance difference so much as lower voltage [DDR4 scores higher clocks but at vastly higher latencies]

7th gen intel is a 6th gen intel with an unnoticeable outside of benchmarks overclock, and 8th gen will be more of the same.

And even though the Pro 460 is nowhere near as powerful as the GTX 1060 or 1080, I'd argue that, performance per watt, it's one of the best cards on the market. especially since the 460 only uses 35w, while the 1060 is something like 120w, and the 1080 on the blade pro is 150w---which ALONE is higher than the MbP 87w max draw.

Of course I'm biased, as Razer wasted a month of my time with 3 $4,200 laptops that couldn't even play Heroes Of The Storm. . . and the last one they couldn't even get the chassis straight.

lol ok...nintendo is finished

Nintendo is the only company who makes money with his systems and have enough money in the bank for the next 35 years and billions in assets.

There was a good article in a newspaper about it. You should read more.

I think it's quite good...
I play Overwatch (installed on external ssd)
I use 2880*1600 res. and set to the max graphic setting
still get 40 or more fps

and something like metal gear solid 5
not max setting but I still use 2880X1600 and get descent fps
