how

I wonder "how" they addressed this issue. I wouldnt be surprised if they had just adjusted how quiuckly the fans come on or they just underclocked the GPU

I'll try it tonight when I get back from work.
Just wondering what it fixes?

Fingers crossed it's the fan issues a lot of people have been having (including me).

Regards,
Simon

The lines went distortion went away instantly?

The lines only appeared when I worked the CPU/GPU really hard. After I updated the firmware, no matter how much I worked the CPU/GPU, I couldn't get the lines to appear again, so I'm pretty sure the firmware update resolved the issue.

Do you notice your fans cranking up higher than usual? Possibly to keep the GPU cooler? But then it should just be called an SMC update.. hmm..

Just to let you know that this fixed my heat issues in windows!

I haven't noticed the fans spinning up any faster as yet, but the temps are way down so I'm a very happy bunny!

Good job apple! :)

Simon

Argh!!! Spoke too soon. No idea what's going on but the temps are back again after a reboot.

This is in vista 64Bit by the way.

At ldle I'm getting around 56degrees on the cores.

No ideas what's going on with it now.

Back to input remapper I guess! :(

Simon

Anyone managed to get some conclusive answers on this one?

Did the firmware work for the people who could reproduce the issue before?

Ppl seem to be suggesting that this might still be h/w related....

OR is not one seeing the lines issue on their 17" at all in high graphics mode?

Others say.... they might have underclocked the GPU, geekbench tests show otherwise..... who knows!

Can anybody confirm that the issue is def fixed?.....

I had the black bar/screen flash/flicker - the update seems to have taken care of it. I've been through 7 sleep/wake cycles without any problems, whereas before, it would have been pretty well guarantee to trigger the problem (waking up).

Applied the update. Nothing special. System runs just as normal. Seems like the battery life improved by 10 minutes in 9600GT but thats about it. Heat is just as normal (68-80 deg C GPU Diode average)

I just installed the update, and now my 17" MBP doesn't make the Apple Turn on Sound when you first press the power button to turn the computer on. How wierd  still not very important.
