HD is near it but it's mainly the SuperDrive and GPU I think

thats a below view? left side would indicate battery and whatnot... i wonder if thats it?

Ahh, yeah, you're right. I knew there was something wrong with SuperDrive being on the left hand side :D Then it's the CPU and GPU causing the in left hand side of the keyboard

lol... but even so, that would only insulate the heat from getting to the base right? To properly insulate the keyboard, something has to be put in the middle of the CPU/GPU and keyboard. If I'm not mistaken, what has been shown here is the black plastic between the base and CPU/GPU.

i thought the black plastic was between keyboard and the contents below (e.g. CPU./GPU etc?).

No. Look at the picture. The plastic layer is clearly in between the logic board and the keyboard.

There is no black plastic between the bottom case and the CPU/GPU, but the fiberglass logic board insulates the bottom fairly well.

Yeah, it is. As in the pics below, there is clearly a plastic when the logic board has been taken off. It doesn't insulate ALL heat though and the whole upper part isn't insulated. What temps are you getting btw?

Most of the heat is dissipated through the bottom I think, that's why an insulator would just make things worse (keep the heat inside)

true, i think the plastic is also to keep crums/dust out etc. doesnt do very well with heat. maybe putting in some foam or something? (does that stop heat? lol)

I think not in low quantities. Plastic and rubber work well as they don't conduct the heat like e.g. aluminum does i.e. don't conduct electrons

I get the pictures now... must have sounded retarded in the previous post. But to get to that, I'll have to take out CPU and stuff?

I'm getting 50C idle and 60-70C while gaming. Temperatures look good to me, just the warmth of the chassis (keyboard, palm rest) doesn't feel too good. Especially if when you are playing fps or strategy where your left palm is almost always resting and fingers on the keys.

I've called Apple support and they said I could bring it down to Genius Bar to have it checked.

do you game via windows or osx? windows heat management isnt very well (partly has to do with apple too).

those temperatures are all fine! nothing to be worried about - except for getting burnt fingers/palms.

i dont think they will be able to do much though unfortunately.

Don't void your warranty by taking the logic board out with this silly issue. Your temps are normal, maybe your fingers are just extra sensitive. The keyboard route I recommended earlier should make you happy, no more finger burns

yup, don't think I would want to risk my warranty by taking out the logic board. Another thought just entered my mind, maybe the thermostat has been displaced or something. Lol, I'm just freaking out because I'm a student and I paid top dollar (pounds) for this machine and I want to be absolutely sure there it is running properly. Apart from this, this is a godsent upgrade from my 20" 2007 model iMac

You can take it to Apple Store and let them do some testing. Your temps are completely fine though so I wouldn't panic

you have paid a premium for your mac. a premium that will pay off eventually. if you really are that worried about it just take it in and they will run tests and whatnot, but from what your telling us it appears to be running perfecly fine and withing the limts of the machine. goodluck :D
