wow 85 degrees or higher? and i thought my 12"g4 was hot. ive never seen it go over 54 degrees. ill just wait until apple solves this problem and the stain issue. then i'll get an intel mac

My MBP sits on around 50'C so maybe I was lucky and got the 1 guy who knows how to apply thermal paste.

No, I'm a glass at least 90% empty kind of guy. I don't have a problem with people being happy with their MBP. I have a problem with them denying there is a problem JUST BECAUSE theirs is nice. The majority of people have problems with heat, whine, etc. That's not pessimism, it's reality.

What do you base your assumption on? Without proof all you are doing is ranting. Noone here is denying that the original MacBook Pros "may" have had issues, but why do you find it so hard to believe that Apple have addressed them?

Unless they fixed it in the past two weeks (and there was a report last week that their machine produced two weeks ago still had heat/whine), then I have a problem believing it's fixed... simply because it's not.

And now all you people are really changing the whole point of your argument. It's gone from "the majority of people don't have problems" to "the majority of people don't care about the [problems]" to "Apple fixed the [problems that never existed]".

I base my "assumptions" on the posts of people here and every other Mac forum. For every one post of someone saying "mine is running at [insert number under 50C] at idle." there are at least 9 saying "mine is running at [insert number above 60C] at idle". Vocal majority? Yes. Total majority? It's impossible to tell, but it seems that way.

I would never expect the people online or in forums to be representative of the majority of users, simply because they aren't going to come here and talk about how cool their Macbook Pro runs. Mine gets warm after a couple hours of use, just like my Pentium 3 Dell used to. Mine gets warm to the point where I can't keep it on my lap, just like my Pentium 3 Dell used to. Heat is an unfortunate side effect of cramming more stuff into a small chassis, and with as limited as the space is on the Macbook Pro, it's no wonder it gets warm.

Everything is a sacrifice here, and nobody is forcing people to run out and buy computers. If the heat issue was as widespread as this forum (and other Apple forums, for that matter) make it out to be, then I don't doubt that Apple would be on top of it and would make changes. People also have to exercise their right to contact Apple if they feel like their product is truly defective, but people tend to adopt the bandwagon way of thinking (especially online). Instead, they come and bash Apple online and never work to get the problem fixed.

My own MacBook Pro does not get incredibly hot. When encoding videos or something, it hovers around 68 degrees but when I'm using Word or browsing casually it's right around 50. It does get warm, but I expected as much from a portable computer. I'm thoroughly pleased with my MacBook Pro.

My macbook gets way to hot and it is unbearable. I have a pillow under it right now so I don't get burned. I also have to put the air con lower to cool off.

A pillow is a bad idea, the heat needs to escape. I would suggest a large hardcover book, such as an Atlas...or maybe a cutting board.

Again, it is NOT A DESIGN ISSUE. Apple designed this machine fantastically. The heat issue is resolved (99% of the time) by simply reapplying AS5 thermal paste properly.

No more burning laps. It's great.

That's about how mine ran before as well. My temperature (at the moment) is 48C after running for an hour or so (post reapplication). A 15C drop in temperature is quite amazing for the thighs.

Late 2006 MBP. I see up to 85 degrees on the CPU (according to iStat) while playing Wow. Usually it's in the lower 70's during WoW but it can spike up some times. Fan is at 6000 rpm. GPU at ~60 degrees.

No complaints though, working great.

I've been reading the blog here and folks saying heat doesn't matter all that much. Well let me tell you, Heat Does Matter.
My macbook pro got so hot that it burned out my motherboard, keyboard and the hard drive. Fortunately for me I had it warranted with Apple's 3 year warranty. I am sure apple wished otherwise, but not me.
The repairs were made quickly but I installed an adjustor for the fan and things are again going well, but I will watch the heat from now on.

I suggest you do as well.

My macbook pro got so hot that it burned out my motherboard, keyboard and the hard drive. Fortunately for me I had it warranted with Apple's 3 year warranty. I am sure apple wished otherwise, but not me.
The repairs were made quickly but I installed an adjustor for the fan and things are again going well, but I will watch the heat from now on.

I suggest you do as well.
