bottom line, being in an aluminum enclosure the display part of mbp is rather heavy, therefore, you are unable to work if your workflow is that you put your laptop against the wall and look towards the ceiling (probably sitting on the wall, having your back on the floor.) i dont have such workflow so the hinge itself has caused me approx 0 problems till now.

I've read this "workflow" description a few times since the new laptops were released. I think I need someone to draw me a picture, because if it is what I think it is.... then I cannot understand why people expect this to work.

Hinge is fine. Flexes when pressed, but that's just the plastic cover.

The two best hinges in the industry are IBM and Apple.

Unless Apple starts using steel hinges, I'd have to say that it's only Lenovo/IBM.

If everyone is complaining about the 15" MBP screen, how bad do u think the 17" MBP screen is going to be?

The hinges on the 15in mbps are weaker than just about every other laptop ever invented. Some are better than others and for most people, the weakness of the hinge is not going to cause an issues. My mbp hinge is stronger than others I've seen, but I'd still say it's looser than any other laptop I've ever owned/seen. I do sometimes use my laptop while laying in bed with the laptop propped up on my knees and sometimes the lid does flop down or start to close. If I need to put it at a steeper angle I just have to lift it slowly and try not to jar it and it's fine, but at most normal angles it's not an issue. I'm interested to see how the 17inch hinges turn out, b/c if weight of the display is a factor, than the 17incher is going to aggravate a lot of people with it's floppiness.

I take it you have never used the PowerBook G4 17" or the MBP 17"? Their screens are like the 15" in that if you raise it at a large angle it will close.

Really, it's not loose, it's a design decision. I will close easier but it opens and adjusts easier also.
