Hello

congrats to all who have received their MacBooks today
especially @ocgirl, as a compatriot ;)

@ocgrilg
Thank you for the nice review, I feel exactly like you.
these reviews are useful because so much crappy thing were said about these MacBooks. Yes they are not perfect, and pricey, but they are not as rubbish as some would say...

overtime what I prefer is the sound : By far, the best I have ever had on a laptop

regarding the keyboard, it seems to be less noisy over time : it could be some running-in, but I think my brain is acclimating to the "noise". I still have my MBP 2013 and the new keyboard is much more precise than the other and need a lesser force to actuate.

yes the noise of the trackpad Is ridiculous, you have to switch the "clic" to "lager " (light) and it's much better then.

for your future purchases :
for the case, the best one Imho is "LaRobe" from be.ez. check if they have released 2016 macbook version.
to protect my MBP with testosterone color :D I purchased a skin from decalgirl, without using the inside sticker (for palm rest)...It hides the nice body material, but the idea of scratching my macbook would kill me

for SD card, the hub looks to bulky for me. I prefer to connect one original dongle on each USB cable that could be plugged to my macbook (joystick, external HDD). for the SD card, strictly speaking, I purchased this, and it is perfect (out of stock actually)

I ordered a DBrand skin to cover the flashy logo.

Anyone else finds the heat around the top parts of the keyboard and on the Touch Bar annoying?

Well, I decided to place an order on Dec 22nd (15" gray 2.7/1TB/460), and got an estimation of January 17th-25th.
It's still showing that, so I have no expectations of getting it sooner...

My original window was 3-10 January and I got it today, so I think there's a fair chance you'll get it in a fortnight from now.

I will receive mine today! Basically went from Amsterdam to Leipzig overnight, currently in transit to my city. Estimated is End of Day today. I ordered on Dec 21st by the way, was a BTO (13inch, 3.3GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, US Keyboard).

That seems an unusually long time, now that the shipping is 1-2 weeks. What did you order ?

So after using the 13" MBP TB for a little over 24 hours I can write my own little review:

Keyboard: I actually really like it. When I tried in the store for the first time I really didn't like it and even considered getting the 2015 MBP. I went back to the store a few times after that and after trying it the second time I already liked it a lot. Now I love it. The keyboard on my "old" Lenovo laptop feels wobbly now and I am glad I don#t have to go back to using it all the time. I also love sound. It definitely is louder, but I just really like it.

Touchbar: I am getting used to using it. Since I have obviously not been using a laptop with a touchbar before, I didn't take advantage of it immediately. Now that I have customised it in some of the apps and paid a little attention to what it offers I am using it more and more. I am pretty sure that I will not want to go back to a laptop without one in a week or so. It is very nice!

Display: Amazing! I continue to be amazed by it while just surfing the web, watching youtube or just reading stuff.

Battery: No problems so far. It charges very fast (fastest of all my devices and previous laptops) and I don't feel like I have to charge it more often than before. I have not stopped the time it takes to completely drain but 50% battery gave me 5 hours this morning.

What else? I really, really love it!

It seems I'll be able to get around 7-8 hours on battery with mine with the kind of Safari/Word/Mail/Messages/PDFs workflow I've had on it so far (some music in the background eats a little bit more, of course); coconutBattery has been helpful for measurements / predictions.

I actually find the 'shinier' features of TB such as mini Safari tabs annoying. I agree it works well after customisation in various apps and system-wide but so far I haven't seen anything I would miss on a non-TB version, where the same coud be achieved through keyboard shortcuts (well, the playback slider is cool but not necessary), and most apps have a very poor TB support, even those that boast having introduced it already such as Fantastical 2. I'm waiting for the TB support in MS Word 2016 the most at the moment, mainly for things such as changing the colour or highlighting parts of the text.

I do love the keyboard. It's very easy to type fast on (I get around 130 wpm), though I still find my Das Professional mechanical keyboard more comfortable, though not necessarily faster.

The Iris GPU is a huge bump from the HD 4000 I had in my 2012 Mini. Browsing lenghty documents (200 pp.) in Word, graphic-rich pages in Safari, etc. feels much more fluid. I'm a bit surprised pages in highly compressed PDFs (with MRC compression as found in the Windows version of FineReader) don't load faster though.

Trackpad doesn't register gestures well, even two-finger scrolling, but particularly three-finger drag. You really need to start in one of the corners with your fingers to make sure it always registers it as intended. I would've preferred a bigger palm rest, though palm rejection actually works (too) well.

Overall, I really like it, though I find it a tiny bit too narrow for comfortable lap use and I wouldn't mind an extra 20% of battery time.

Really? I don't have a problem with gestures at all. Even starting a gesture in the middle of the trackpad works fine. And I find to be very sensitive as I never get wrong interpretation or 'readings'. It recognises one, two or three fingers very reliably at all times.
I have read about problems with the palm rest. I actually somehow don't need one because of the way I use the trackpad.
I guess it all comes down to how you use something or how you got used to using something.

Do you use at all 3-finger drag (which can be turned on in Accessibility settings)? The issue was present on every MBP 2016 I've tried.

I have just enabled it! Thanks, I didn't know about that! It also works from anywhere on the trackpad. But once I enabled that the other gestures that previously needed three fingers (Notification Center and mission control) were changed to needing 4 fingers.

Does it really only work for you when you start at the edge of the trackpad?

Not only – but I need to start with all three fingers at one half of the trackpad (the corner is thus the safest bet), since the new trackpad is so large it uses two 'motors' to drive it underneath (as hinted by other users struggling with the same problem). And every 13" 2016 MBP I've tried was like that. I bet that if you use the gesture frequently enough, you'll notice its not being registered properly. A pity, since it's a very useful one, and many have thought Apple would deal with it by now.
Curiously my Magic Trackpad 2 has none of these issues, and I generally consider it superior to the MBP one. I'm actually using it now next to the MacBook.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday! 15'', 2.7GHz, AMD 560, 500GB, coming from a fully upgraded early 2011 model. No complaints so far, everything is running smoothly. Biggest surprise was the speakers, I was blown away by the sound quality.

Has anyone who has received their MacBook Pro done any benchmarking?
I received my 15 inch (2.9, 460, 512gb) today and am loving it but I did a Blackmagic speed test and my write speeds aren't going above 1018 mb/s which I thought was very low.. Is there something wrong with my SSD or have other people had speeds like this?
Or could anyone direct me to a thread talking about this?

I have the exact same configuration and I got a write speed of about 1780. Maybe your computer was busy doing other things (like indexing) while you benchmarked so that's why you got a lower score?

I'm getting around 1600-1700 write / 2200-22550 read in AJA System Test Lite on a 1TB drive on MBP 13", but for example in Parkdale the speed drops with larger sample files. With Blackmagic (which is very inaccurate) it's the opposite - the larger sample, the better speeds it shows (1650-1750 write / 1950-2000 read).
Try a different benchmark and make sure Spotlight indexing isn't going on in the background?
These apps are generally inaccurate. As an alternative, you can try a commandline 'time dd if=/dev/zero bs=1024k of=testfile count=10000' or similar. Mine shows:
10485760000 bytes transferred in 6.701954 secs (1564582534 bytes/sec)
And make sure to remove that 'testfile' later.

Edit: I forgot to mention two things, which can influence the results of such benchmarks: (1) I have FileVault on, (2) the SSD is now 60% full.

Damn.. hope mine isn't estimated for that but I'm sure it will be. I feel like it'll arrive before the 28th if it dispatched today. Especially on express.

Hey all,

My first post here but I've been reading all your posts and updates for the last couple weeks. I've ordered my MacbookPro on 18/11/2016.

This was at my local Mac store in Eindhoven, Netherlands. They couldn't give any updates regarding shipments etc so I was completely in the dark until the email saying: Your shipment has been delivered. Come and pick it up!

So here is my little detailed story:

Specs: MacbookPro 15" Touch Bar
2,9 GHz i7
500 GB
460 - 4GB
16 GB RAM
Spacegray

Ordered: 18/11/2016
Completely paid up front

Delivered: 28/12/2016
It's worth the wait!

Good luck everyone, your patience will be rewarded!!

@Rondamonium Sure hope mine is close to delivery. I also ordered a CTO. Basic 15" model but with the bumped up processor. I ordered it on 28/10/2016 and still no news. They can't give me any specific information about delivery times. Although on 23/12/2016 we made a call and they said that shipment moved to 26/12/2016. We're a whole week later and still complete silence.

As you're in Eindhoven and I'm in Belgium, I'm kinda guessing mine isn't too far away now. I can just say that I think it's horrible service by Apple. Not only are their delivery times a joke, but the fact that they keep everyone in the dark about the reason behind this insane delay, makes me mad.

My patience is running low...

Ordered a 15'' 2.7/1Tb/460 on December 22nd, with an initial delivery for Jan 17th-24th; changed to preparing for dispatch on Jan 5th, and was shipped yesterday, Jan 6th.

Now it's saying delivery for Jan 16th (which is a lot if it's been shipped already :p), and the DHL tracker has been 24 showing this:

Location Time Piece
1 Shipment information received EINDHOVEN - NETHERLANDS, THE 12:24

My replacement shipped 30 minutes ago

I'm in the same boat. Ordered mine early November and still nothing... Ordered an identical computer for work straight from Apple mid december and got that in two weeks. So it sucks but I guess I have to wait as I have store credit where I ordered it from.

How comes your getting a replacement?

Mine has screen issues, it has dark lines across the top on the screen when you first turn it on, they slowly fade until barley noticeable. Its been getting worse by the day, so I hope I get the replacement before it stops working altogether!!

The replacement is being delivered to an Apple Store, so I can just swap it over. They told me if they ordered it to store it would come quicker then if I ordered of apple.com, been waiting since the 29th December, so not sure that statement was accurate!!
