MacBook Pro M5 Max / 128 GB Ram / 8TB SSD - Future Proof or Not?

So here is the deal, I had a 2017 MacBook Pro and lasted 8 years, did not get the memo on M chips being so great so went and had a disaster and got a Samsung Pro 5 360 Degree laptop, absolute mistake and so angry I went and got in April this Year the top end MacBook Pro M5 14 inch laptop with Max Chip, 128 GB Ram and 8 TB SSD, 7k USD so got me discount before the prices got jacked.

Now I am running local LLM’s like 120 Billion quantized model so I needed something fast but the one thing that impresses me the most is 614 GB/s of bandwidth. It does tasks faster than I can blink my eyes. As far as why the 8TB, well 30 years of lumping portable hard drives around sort of wears you down. There comes a time when fast is fast enough and does make me think that perhaps we have reached peak laptop era, might be reason why Apple jump to M7 for next Pro and Max iteration but even then why does it need to be faster???

Interested to know how long this laptop will last me and how long have a I covered my self for future proofing? I reckon good till 2035 or is it less or more?

TLDR- you can add an external enclosure to expand storage at decent speeds compared to past Thunderbolt iterations.

Thunderbolt 5 (M5 Max): tunnels PCIe Gen 4×4, which allows around 6,000 MB/s real-world read speeds, with well-built enclosures hitting 6,500+ MB/s in testing on Apple. That is nearly double what I can get on TB4 connections on my M1 Studio Max.

There is no such thing as future proofing. Buy what you need for the next three years and then upgrade as you go.

It’s cheaper in the long run AND you get better hardware in years 4-9.

Based on your use case, you're sorted for the next 5-7 years minimum. And if you don't care about being on the latest MacOS/enjoying the newest features as they come out, you might be able to keep that badass for up to 7-10 years.
