MacBook Pro not turning on past grey screen

That's what I'm doing too..long and painful process..

I did it, I did it!! I don't know why it didn't work last night..

Last night I erased the hard drive. Today I again installed the OSx, then all the updates, then the TM restore..so far it is all working..a couple pinwheels, but keeping my fingers crossed..now a new hard drive is on the way, and I don't know if I need it..

I'm just glad it's fixed..

Great! Now you want to know if the HDD is OK. Open your applications folder. Click on "utilities". Within utilities, click on "disk utility". Select your HDD from the menu on the left, then click on "verify disk". If it all checks out OK, you're probably good to go!
