Hi

Looking to purchase new MacBook Pro 13” 2020 (May)
16gb
i5 10th Gen
512GB

However reading about the possibility of a new 13” coming by end of 2020 with ARM. Is likely to be the 8th Gen 13” upgrades and not the 10th Gen is there likely to be an upgrade on the one I am looking at?

working out if best to wait or if it won’t matter to the spec I am looking at I’ll buy now.

thanks

It always comes down to whether or not you need a new machine right now or not. I’ve owned many many computers in my life, and I eventually learned that if I can keep the current one(s) just a little bit longer each time, that’s a lot of money saved in the end. So just keep using whatever you’re using until either (a) you really need something new, because of speed, compatibility, security, functionality, or whatever; or (b) something truly compelling comes along that, while you don’t *need* it, you also can’t resist.

As to the details, I doubt, at this point, that there will be a new x86 13” (beyond maybe speed bumps), but Apple isn’t telling us, of course.

I am not in a rush will need something in next couple months

question is more around if the recently released May 2020 13” 10th gen one is likely to be getting an upgrade in Q4 2020 or is it just the 8th being rumoured to be ARMat entry level

I doubt there will be a q4 upgrade. By q4 we should be seeing Apple silicon devices rolling out, and I doubt there will be many x86 updates other than, perhaps, for the Mac Pro.
