Just got my email from the UK store.

And it's wrong!

It's subject says Your Apple Store order W{V-AST_WEB_ORDER_NUMBER} (oops) and . We have automatically upgraded your MacBook Pro from a 1.67GHz processor to a 1.83GHz processor at no additional cost!

Shame I ordered a 1.83, not a 1.67, and am now expecting a 2.0

I'm sure it'll sort itself out soon, otherwise I'll have to call Apple I suppose

I've got exactly the same mail. Man, they have to be completely incompetent to send out crap like this...

Now all I need is to find out when i get to work tomorrow I can order one proper, for the prices of 667MHz DDR2 to fall again so I can pick up a 1 gig stick, (recently went up to £125 from £100), and the price of the LaCie Extreme 500GB triple to fall to about £200 and I'm sorted.

I can't see my Mac being available until mid-March though and then up and fully running with all the bits I want until the end of March, maybe into April. :(

iBook Core Solo

The iBook is for non pros.

I predict, 13" 1.67, 1.83 Mac Book(iBook) Core Solo.

15" 2.0, 2.16 Mac Book Core Solo.

Apple will want to make sure people know the diffirence
between the Mac Book, and the Mac Book PRO!

Depending on prices Apple can get the chips for, after today I started thinkign maybe a 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz MacBook Core Solo. That way they aren't exactly half the speed and they will be similar in performance to the PC models, which will replace the current models using a 1.73GHz Pentium M.

If they are shipping then who are they shipping to?

If they are shipping then who are they shipping to? I guess "now shipping" means the 28th for most of us. Do you think they are shipping to the Apple stores or even vendors?

My order status looks the same. I have the same config. too. I'm guessing they haven't converted the CTO orders yet.

Ok, let's get this thread back to where it once began:

If anyone, regardless of config has one ship this week, please post.

My upgraded 1.67 goes out (acording to Apple Feb 23rd with a March 2nd due date. Does ANYONE still hold a shipping date this week?

How does this alter the "Dell is $1000 cheaper" issue?

It was total bullcrap yesterday, and it still is today. This does nothing, or even slants it more in Apple's favor since the upgrade on the dell site is 500 bucks for the 2.16.

The "article" was there just to generate traffic. Sad and pathetic...

I am also wondering, if there's at least one person here that has still a shipping date this week, because Apple said it starts shipping this week.

For me the shipping time, arrival date minus shipping date, increased from 7 to 10 days (previous 15. to 22. February, now 28. February to 10. March). What a joke, even 7 days are a joke, I've been to China two weeks ago, it's not that far away.
People here in Europe are generally treated like a piece of **** by Apple as far as I can remember (first Apple purchase was 1999).

Apple changed the shipping date again...

It was 15. February, when I originally ordered it (10./11. January), a couple of hours ago they changed it to 28. February and now it is 15. March. Honestly, I wish companies like this one go bankrupt as soon as possible for treating customers like this. Although I don't know where to get nice computers from.

I definitely can't believe they start shipping this week.

Btw: Delivery day is now 27. March!

I just called Apple to confirm the shipping date, and whether or not my rep was a little bitter from answering calls all day, she did say it would not ship before the 28th. I ordered a 1.83 which is being upgraded to a 2.0, however it is a CTO. While this sucks, I guess it will do... the free speed bump is kind of nice.

I pressed the issue with the rep on the phone
about the 9 days they bumped back my
shipping time, so she said I could have $25 off
on my order. It sucks that it is delayed, but
$25, though insignificant, is something at least.

Intel is not shipping Core Solo at those clock rates. Besides which, they would be more expensive than a 1.66 GHz Core Duo. Now there is no reason why Apple should not use the 1.66 GHz Core Duo instead of the Solo in the new iBook.

Shouldn't Apple allow the 2.0GHz Duo iMac to be upgraded to 2.16GHz? I went to the Apple store and fell in love with the iMac. What a great computer expecially the 20"

I see no reason to. I feel that the pro laptop should always outperform the consumer/average desktop machine.

Since the iMac G5 Apple has been in the strange position of having a consumer machine that outperformed a pro machine. However, this was only because they were forced into this because of the problems of putting a G5 in a PowerBook. Now that this is sorted we hopefully won't see the same thing happening again.

Pro laptop outperforming the consumer desktop should be the norm and it looks like it now is.

Sure it's cheaper, but not $1000 cheaper like some would have you think. It's only ~200 cheaper. I think that can easily be justified with all the extras that MBP has.

Like?

Higher res screen?
Dual layer DVD writer?
Superior GPU?

Oh wait, the Dull has it too, for $200 less!

As for all the freaking out over ship dates...just imagine how much faster they could ship boxes out if they weren't spending so much time on the phone with every last person who ordered one of these!

You are wrong, I'm pretty sure those MacBooks are not packed and shipped from India.

This NEVER happened in the G4 world. I am very happy (assuming they didn't ship me the slower one anyways).

This can be a positive or negative in joining the Intel world.

In the Mac world we have been happy with the speeds that Apple gave us at a particular time for the G4

Now we have a moving target. In the next couple of years we will have to deal with "speed upgrades" as a course of things. The days of waiting twice a year for speed increases may be ending sooner than we think for the Mac.
