So if i understood correctly, you have an older classic silver macbook pro production 2008

You have purchased "2gb bar" + another additional "2gb bar"
you have the correct DDR and Mhz, however

When you Insert any of the "2Gb bars" = it does not work
When you Insert two "2Gb bars" = it does not work
When you Insert One "2Gb bar" + the existing "1Gb bar" = it works = 3Gb total.

I'm having exactly the same problems as tedphone and as described above by Intense. I'm using the Kingston Apple Kit memory (KTA-MB667K2/4G) and just cannot get it to recognise any more than 3gb. Did anyone resolve this?! Advise very much appreciated before I return the ram! Even with 3gb I have noticed a massive improvement particularly with windows on vmware but really want the 4gb if I can!

Thanks,

Tom.

Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem on the same machine model. But, I bought Crucial RAM. Tried every conceivable combination, but the new 2gb RAM only works when paired with one of the old 1gb sticks. And they BOTH work (when paired with old RAM), just not together. The 2gb RAM they sold me says 6400 800mHz -- Could the faster speed be the problem? My system profiler shows it as 667mHz.

I am having exactly the same issue with the 4gb Kingston RAM kit I purchased last week. The model number of the RAM is KTA-MB667K2/4G. When I inserted BOTH of the 2gb sticks my Mac would not boot. When I inserted one 2gb stick + 1gb stick (original Samsung) my MacBook Pro booted up and recognised the correct 3gb. I tested both 2gb sticks in this configuration and they both functioned correctly.

Interestingly, I also tested the RAM in a MacBook. The MacBook booted up and the full 4gb were recognised. So the RAM is OK??

My MacBook Pro Specs:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00
SMC Version: 1.27f1

Any help would be appreciated..

Need 2 upgrade memory on MBP 1st gen 15in. Core2 Duo

What type of RAM should I buy for my 1st generation MBP 15in. 2.33ghz Core2 Duo. Presently has 3gb and I do mostly Video capture and editing with Final Cut Pro on this laptop. I also presently have a 160gb internal HD which is running very full with all my apps installed plus I keep most of my video project files on this 160gb drive. All my video media files are kept on an external 1TB USB HD so not to further load down my internal HD.

Since I'm a recent PC convert to Mac, will this memory upgrade void my extended warranty which was transferred when I bought it from another person and is still good until Feb of 2010.

Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions...

A memory upgrade would not void your warranty but your machine is only capable of addressing a couple hundred more megabytes of memory than what you already have, meaning a maximum of ~3.3GB. It's up to you if it's worth it or not.
