if you read sydenham's previous posts all they do is troll the forums calling people disgraceful or scammers for returning any product for any reason whatsoever.

i imagine them as a middle aged spinster, overweight and bitter against society, they once bought an apple product which was faulty but they never had the guts to contact apple about it so now they take their frustration out on us poor MR forum users :(

life can be so tragic.

I purchased a Macbook Pro Mid-2009 2.8ghz edition on ebay that still had a little over 2 years of Applecare a few months back. After a month or two my screen started to flicker and go out. I call Apple and they told me to send it in for repair. They replaced the logic board and sent it back to me. A day later I still had the issue. I called them and told them it still wasn't fixed. They told me to send it in again which I did. After a few days they called me and stated they couldn't duplicate the issue so they were going to send it back to me unrepaired. I asked for a senior advisor because I didn't want to go through this process 100 times and never get a resolution. The senior advisor offered to give me a 2.0ghz 2011 model. I tried to get him to give me the 2.2 version with the better graphics card seeing as the laptop I had was the top of the line for 2009 with more graphics memory, but he wouldn't do it.

When the new 2.0ghz 2011 laptop arrived, I didn't open it. I called Apple and told them that the new laptop doesn't fully meet what I have in the graphics department. After a little convincing, the rep offered to trade the computer they just sent me for the 2.2 2011 laptop that has the better graphics card.

The point: you will most likely get a 2011 version (who knows which one) so a little convincing on your part will get you the better version if you can make a good arguement. They state the policy is "a like for like" trade.

I paid $1,200 for the mid-2009 laptop on ebay to begin with so now I have the newest 2.2 2011 version for $1,200. Can you beat that? Not to mention, they transferred the difference of the warranty over which is almost a full 2 years.

Good to see nice & honest people on this forum

Congratulations. Sounds like you pulled off a good scam. Of course we only have your word that the computer wasn't really repaired. I can imagine it was and that Apple really couldn't duplicate the problem. Disgraceful.

Do you think Apple is in the business of giving away $2000 computers for phantom issues? I don't think so. They would not have offered the replacement unless it was a known issue. Obviously they have had trouble duplicating the issue in the past. That is why the replacement was offered.

BTW: I have had three replacements because I buy broken Apple equipment every week. Sometimes I get a unit with a problem that is still under warranty or the warranty has been extended on. I bought that 2006 iMac on eBay for $225. Why? Because I knew the vertical line issue was going to be a free fix for me. Does that make me a scammer because I am well informed?

You would have been offered the 17 inch if you mentioned the expresscard slot that the penryn MBP had, and only the 17inch now retains.

HAHA. The only problem with that is that I NEVER used that slot. If I told them I used it, they would look at the slot and ask why is there no wear from using it :) .

I still haven't use the SD slot. I wish they had a CF instead (actually i don't really want either..) since my camera only uses CF cards

Month and a half or half a month?
About 45 days total with out the macbook

and the problems happen back to back, so with in 3 months I was with out the mac 45 days. Upon getting the mac fixed I sold it locally on clist because I did not want anymore problems.

Where is the dishonesty, Mr. Sarcastic? In your eyes, should I have stated "I am not entitled to a new computer because I only paid $1,200 for this one on ebay. Even though I have had to send the computer in twice now and the issue still isn't fixed, I don't think your Applecare should cover me." By the way, I told them it was purchased on ebay. That didn't seem to matter. The warranty goes with the serial number.

Would that be better? Are you kidding me? Haters. Nothing less.

themac23: I have had the exact machine as you and had it replaced with the specs in my sig. This is the second machine in 1 month since the first arrived with a dead battery that didn't last 7 hrs( all crap if you ask me).

It took exactly 10 days to receive my new machine. I opted for them to send the new one first before sending the old one that they are replacing (overheating, same speaker noise, shutting off)

The new one supposedly has all the good stuff, but in my mind I prefer the old one's graphics card.

The battery doesn't even last 3 hours. I have had it for 2 days and monitored it in parallel with my old one whose battery was replaced last September and functions much better. 7hours my ass!!!!

I haven't checked out its full capability since I am still in the process of reinstalling all my adobe software to truly see its power.

Make sure you test the battery before signing off. There is w hole process with replacing it. If your representative is great you should have it within 10 days the most.
