Transcend have a Jetdrive Toolbox which automatically unmounts the drive when the system sleeps and remounts it upon waking. Zero battery drain, basically.

Just looked into that Jetdrive Toolbox. I had no idea it existed but that auto unmount/mount feature sounds perfect. Do you need to leave the app running for it to work?

Intrigued by JerDrive too. Many have to purchase one and give it a whirl. Think it would/could have windows 8.1 on it through parallels and boot from it?

This post earlier on in his thread pretty much answers your question. The 256 GB is faster, but the noticeable difference won't be huge.

I would be more concerned about the limited capacity of the 128 GB. They tend to fill up fast.

If that's all you plan to use it for a 128 GB should be fine. In fact, for your usage a Retina MacBook may actually be the best choice.

A Retina MacBook should be able to handle the usage you described just fine and it's also thinner/lighter than the rMBP. It's a good option to consider if you're fine with only having one port.

thank you so much for your opinion !

it makes a big difference when i go to the store to buy it tomorrow!

ill be getting a military discount as well and no tax...

that all helps!

Don't forget the dongle for video, usb-c passthrough and usb 3 connectivity. $79. May or may not be a big deal for you.

You can buy an 128GB SD-card for $50? and expand your storage that way.
Office documents and stuff like that don't really benefit anything from the internal SSD..

Hi Everyone,

I purchased the 2015 MBP 13" just 3 days ago. I went with the 128GB and already think I made a mistake in not going for the 256GB. Can anyone tell me how well it would go over at the local Apple Store if I returned this one and went with the 256GB, since I am well under the 14 day policy? I am not at all in the habit of returning things, but in this case I think I made an error. Would most Apple Stores be fairly understanding? Would they have any issue with me buying the 256GB right then at the time of the return of the 128GB?

Thanks!

Apple store takes them back no questions, as long as it works.

If you even have a sliver of a doubt 128 won't work for you you gotta trade it in.

Thank you. I guess I feel a bit guilty about this, but truly feel that I made a mistake going with the 128GB. If they are generally pretty understanding about returns under these circumstances, then I may follow through with it. Thanks again.

Yea If you bought in store won't be a problem. Problems I ran into were because i had used works online portal/pricing. Caused quite a bit of confusion.

Thank you. Yes, I purchased it directly from an Apple Store.

Doesn't matter, take it back. You are under the 14 day policy. I thought 128gb would suffice but boy I was wrong. Even with using iCloud to store stuff, I have a separate partition running Windows 10 (so I can play Smite now and again) and it is a pain in my bum.

Best computer, but the 128gb shouldn't even be an option.

Im in the same pickle. I bought my first macbook last week. I opted for the 128gb Macbook Pro Retina version and was on the fence if I needed the 256gb instead.

I am strictly using it for:
Basic web browsing.
Microsoft Excel/Word for senior year of college
Almost no gaming
Email
I don't use iTunes (Spotify) and I DO NOT have many photos.

I do want this machine to last me 2+ years without any regrets...So I am worried the 128gb will last me long enough. Even though you can simply purchase an external chip to store anything else. Decisions.....decisions..

128 will be plenty of space for you.
