Im in the same pickle. I bought my first macbook last week. I opted for the 128gb Macbook Pro Retina version and was on the fence if I needed the 256gb instead.

I am strictly using it for:
Basic web browsing.
Microsoft Excel/Word for senior year of college
Almost no gaming
Email
I don't use iTunes (Spotify) and I DO NOT have many photos.

I do want this machine to last me 2+ years without any regrets...So I am worried the 128gb will last me long enough. Even though you can simply purchase an external chip to store anything else. Decisions.....decisions..

If you are looking for just 2-3 years in future, I would suggest you to stick to the 128GB and buy an external drive. External HD or SSD with USB 3.0 and beyond are excellent. I hardly get to notice any big lag in transfer speeds etc while using it. Just store the unwanted movies, songs etc in that and you will be good to go with 128GB itself.

----------

Forgot to mention in the earlier post... I too bought a 128GB around 12 days back with a 1 TB external Hard drive.. I too was in a dilemma... But later thought that for the difference I would pay for the 256GB, I might as well go and buy good external drives with multitudes of space than the mere 128GB extra that I would be getting for $200 more...

And if you are planning to use the machine for 3 years and above, even 256 GB will be small if you are big on storing media files (photos, songs, movies etc)

Hi Everyone,

I purchased the 2015 MBP 13" just 3 days ago. Would they have any issue with me buying the 256GB right then at the time of the return of the 128GB?

Thanks!

apple wants you happy, and they are always willing to take more of your money..just back it up and take it back, and wipe it before returning.

Judging by how much I use currently on my Mac Mini and that's after transferring any files not needed regularly to an external drive I'm definitely going with the 512GB option. At the end of the day you have to try and assess your needs based on your usage patterns. From my experience Apple is usually pretty understanding and as long as you return it within 14 days and it's in retail saleable condition there should be no problem.

I forgot to add the other option if you choose to keep it is to add a 128GB SD card. Whilst it won't be as fast as the internal SSD it's another option.

I originally had 128gb, and it was a tight squeeze with not a lot of data saved. I needed to always delete videos and other things. I got one of those 64gb jet drives and I was good for a while.

With my latest mac I went 256gb and very happy I did so. I do not have to worry about running out of space (for now!)

Somebody with a rMBP 2015 13" and a Transcend Jetdrive could run a Blackmagic Disk speed test on the Jetdrive for me, please ? According to specifications the Jetdrive should have approx. Firewire 800 data transfer rates ( 55 - 75 MByte/s ), which would be good enough for my iTunes backups, songs and videos.

I am in the decision phase for a new MBP and I´d like to go with the rMBP early 2015 13" entry level model ( 128 GB SSD ), upgraded to 16 GB RAM.

A good temporary solution for me until the prices come down and I go for a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD upgrade.

I would highly appreciate !

Thanks, ME

Even the time machine runs faster than that,
Over Wifi Time Machine will hit 30MB/s (240Mbs) for read and 35MB/s (280Mbs) for write (not bit, bytes)..

its just clicked - you've got your MBs and Mbs mixed up..
55MBs is 440Mbs and 75MBs is 600Mbs.

Yes, sorry for this. Corrected.

The Transcend Jetdrive Lite should just be fine for what I´m planning to do :)
