The reality is those laptops should have been thicker and heavier to house the appropriate thermal cooling to evacuate heat and prevent throttling as well as house more battery. Instead, we got Jony compromising function for thinness and gimmicks like the Touch Bar.
Right because no one else works at Apple and has a say about anything.

GPU doesn't seem as magical as they sold it...

Though this table seems very confusing

There still is some throttling, with only the 16” Max having access to “high power mode”. Waiting to see a detailed study of this.

It is funny how everyone is up in their arms about "port xy" and magsafe being back and I have been holding onto my retina MacBook Pro from 2012 for so long that it is literally just an upgrade for that MBP for me. I never experienced missing those ports.

And yes, the 16inch looks HUGE and heavy.
Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop Studio only has two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports, a headphone jack and proprietary power connector. NO HDMI, no SD card. Limited ports does get mentioned in reviews but not the outrage we saw with MBPs.

The single core comparison is interesting in favor of the Air. Is there a definitive list of "things that are always 100% single core no matter what?"

I meant a link to the throttling... not to boost mode.

The Verge so desperate for clicks they published a "we are working in it"/"here's what you already know" post. Lame. They say they've had it for a week and still need to test battery life and whatnot. Like, what have you been doing this past week?
The Verge annoys me more than any other “tech” site. If they aren’t all up into politics, they are writing (badly) about movies and pop culture. However, when they do cover tech, they usually do a great job. Dieter Bohn has become my go-to reviewer for a lot of Apple stuff. But this “review” was annoying. There is no reason they couldn’t give us something more. It just seems like they were busy last week and decided, “eh, we’ll get to it eventually”.

The first photo in this article is making me utterly nostalgic. 2011 MBP was my first, I had it in 15" model. Served me beautifully without any issues till I replaced it with another in 2016.

This design is a throwback to that design and I love it. I might have to get this model just for the nostalgia of it.

Writing requirements here along with graphic design for panels and websites. I do not need the power, but I will appreciate the display.

Can't wait to get this. Its going to be a beast to get stuff done as well as a beast to lug around.

That notch is a bad design. PERIOD. Please stop encouraging anything which blocks the display.
I really hated it at first, but I think it will mostly disappear with real-world use. I’m sitting in front of my Mac Mini and realized that 99% of the time the top middle of my screen is just a blank space. I highly doubt that it would bother me all that much in practical use day-to-day usage. I would still prefer that it wasn’t there, but I also don’t think it’s going to be an issue in the long run.

Some takeaways from the reviews that answered questions I had:

- very quiet and cool (<30 Celsius), even under load
- size is basically the same as a slightly thicker 2015 15 inch MBP
- 16 inch feels pretty heavy
- the weird looking feet only in fact look weird in the product photos, not in real life
- performance is excellent
- battery life lives up to claims

I am particularly pleased about the noise/heat.
