Hi there guys,

I'm just wondering if there are any answers to this issue please...

I have an M1 Max Macbook Pro with 64GB Ram and I am running the latest os - Ventura 13. 4. 1 (c).

Previously, when I finish work for the day I set my Mac to go to sleep, I shut the lid, and the next morning I open the lid and the screen automatically wakes - it turns on.
However, in the last few days, consecutively, I've noticed that when I open the lid the screen is black, and I need to press the power button to make the screen turn on.

Just for reference, I have the MacBook Pro hooked up to a monitor via USB C.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening?

Thank you.

Can you test to see if the laptop is going to sleep when you shut the lid?

It's possible that the little magnetic reed switch in it has failed, so the computer no longer knows when the screen is opened (or shut).
