Hello
First of all, i must say i did use the search function but i couldnt find any helpful thread and thats why im starting a new one. If this question has been solved already, i would really appreciate if anybody could point me to the thread :) (which, as i said, tried to find without luck, dont think im lazy hehe)

So, i connected my macbook pro to my 42 panasonic plasma tv, and worked perfectly, even sound (using dvi to hdmi adapter), but im having this little issue, which is, the screen does not fit perfectly, im always missing the upper bar (eg: firefox).

Im running the latest OSX and on another forums/threads i read theres a "mirror" option but it seems it has been removed in snow leopard, since im not able to find it where it should be, i wonder if you guys could tell me if theres a known solution to this little problem, besides just adjusting screens to fit on tv.

Any help will be appreciated, and again, sorry if this has been answered before, but i just couldnt find it using the search button

Adjust the overscan in the display options

Also it not that.

Under Displays > Arrangement

do you have "Mirror Displays" checked or unchecked.

Luna, thanks for your reply. When i was trying to fix the problem, i used the ? icon and read about the "overscan" feature, which, i cant find! Searched everything under display without luck (i am using spanish version yet i do know the translation and its not there), so i wonder what am i doing wrong :(
Do you have any link to a screenshot of where this feature should be located?

its checked (different name in spanish) but its the checkbox on the left corner (if its not checked then i can move the screens in the box in the middle right?)

hmm i had this problem too and moving the overscan slider in the display settings fixed it... now if i could only remember off the top of my head where that setting was... i'm at work so i can't get you a screeny. if you haven't figured it out by the time i get home i'll get you one tonight :)

found this on the internet... it should look something like this and then just adjust the underscan slider til it looks right on your tv. haha when I had my problem it took me awhile to see that there was a window neatly layered
behind the initial window that pops up for display settings that was labeled sony bravia (for my tv) you have to make that window active first and i believe the option is in there.

Im on a windows box at the moment, sorry.

With the multi monitor, I recall having to collect all the displays to see the one for the HDTV (in my case a Pioneer Elite 64). Doing this from a vague memory so please excuse any mistakes on the details.

This is what I did to get mine to work

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I had the same problem on my panasonic tv as well - you have to make an adjustment to the size on the TV itself - if I remember correctly it under Picture -> advanced. I'll have to double check when I get home in a few hours, it has been 2 years since I did it.

Edit: you want to look for the HD size 1 or 2 option.

Yes, it's a setting on the TV you have to change. Although overscan is checked on my GF's MB as well.

But make sure you have either 720p or 1080p selected depending on your TV. My 720p samsung will still fit a 1080p res on it though, just a bit shrunken.

Anyway as above poster said, go to picture settings >> Advanced (as per my samsung and then there's a fit option, like 16:9, 4:3, wide fit, and screen fit. You want screen fit or something like that. It will fit to it exactly with edges perfect. I took a crude screen shot to help

I'm posting from my phone so I can't see the screenshot, but:

I think what aznguyen is referring is the zoom, what I'm referring to is the pixel mapping. Networks broadcast with blanks along the edges of the video which is cropped by the tv (I believe this is the HD 1 setting) and the HD 2 setting is 1:1 pixel mapping - you'll want to use this with bluray players, game consoles, and most computers you connect over hdmi.

EDIT: Here's what you do:

Menu -> Picture -> at the bottom select advanced settings -> HD Size -> "size 2"

edit again: This is on my tv which is over 2 years old now, so the menus may have changed a little bit, but the option label is probably the same.

Ok, so underscan option is there but its greyed (it means i cant do anything with it), so thats it, i guess thats the problem. Any idea why this happen?

I did check the tv's config regarding 720p 1080p etc, and its set automatic :(

Did you check the "HD Size" option I recommended? I have a strong feeling that you're having the same configuration problem I had.

Underscan won't work on DVI to HDMI adapter. If I recall, it works on VGA or straight HDMI only.

Such option isnt available on this panasonic plasma tv, im checking the manual and it says it will detect automatic if its 720 1080 etc :(

i just read exactly the same, that it will work only if its hdmi -> hdmi but not dvi->hdmi , what else can i do? :(

I think you're looking at the wrong option, it literally says "size 1" and "size 2" - this is different from the resolution.

Im looking at the exact menu you just posted and only difference is that mine is missing the last option :) , bad luck i guess.

Now, i did try unchecking "mirror image" in order to have 2 screens, and guess what? underscan works and screen fits perfect, thats something i liked, but the idea would be to not use such

not my day for sure
