I seriously detest YouTube Thumbnails…
God I hate these freebie-leeching YouTubers.
The whole thing has become sort of normalized… it’s always the same faces and very few of the venues which might just disappear one day in favor of a single front facing person.
Right? But one of the largest tech youtube channel, Linustechtips, has explicitly stated they HATE doing thumbnails like that. BUT, there is no arguing that when they do make the thumbnails that way, their views are higher. It's very black and white and they tested this themselves.
That’s insane…
I find it a bit hard to believe that by now, when everyone knows that the ‘surprised face finger pointing white outline’ thumbnails are themselves not honest, that the crowd would prefer these thumbnails in general? Not here on MR for sure.
It might just be that the videos that get pushed more are the ones that the algorithm detects as one that could work because of said thumbnail.
Imagine if in the 90s all your favorite rock bands CD covers all had the same dummy face pose and labels would refuse to release anything with a remotely different image cover.
Maybe it’s not that it works but that it’s
forced to work.
I could only stomach two videos.
Are referring to “only two are worth it” (and which one would they be)?
If it was an endurance thing, that might be the record to beat. Can’t drag myself to start any.
Welcome to the high caste of internet Influencer's you get 5 start preferential treatment, first to get new devices before release so they have time to drop the Unboxing & First Impressions the second the embargo lifts, first name terms with the CEO, comped travel and accommodation to product reveals..
Also top marks to ijustine for the irritating open mouth fake surprised derp face thumbnail which every reviewer needs to flood your recommended video list as the SEO social scientists worked out that's the best eye catching clickbait thumbnail to use(!)
TL;DR
I'm more interested in Max Tech's review and benchmarks rather than a gloried advert disguised as an unboxing, maybe Timmy should prioritize actual tech pros allocation of early units rather than corporate friendly powerful Influencer's with high seo reach..
Seconding this, I really like this duo of brothers, it shows that they are trying hard, getting a wide range of hardware configurations with their own money, coming up with benchmarks, tests, etc to show. They go and watch a ton of WWDC videos to try to make something out of it, at least high level.
Sometimes they go clickbait-y titles but the videos aren’t annoying.
I hope they continue to get better and more professional. Also maybe some might be able to propose benchmark ideas, some of the ones there seem to be community driven, for example, the XCode compilation times test was from my understanding prepared by someone that follows them.
