What if what these good, best and better prices reflect is not JUST a new macbook pro.....

given that apple has just released the ipad, is there not some logic in them offering some incentive to purchase an Ipad along with a notebook?

I propose that the 4 prices leaked represent the bundled cost of new mbps AND an Ipad.

Good: 1799.00 (13’ base mbp and Ipad)
Best 1: 2199.99 (15’ base mbp and Ipad)
Best 2: 2299.99 (15 with discrete graphics, and Ipad)
Better 1999.99 (high end 13 mbp and Ipad)

if we use the current prices of 13 and 15 mbps, as well as the 499 ipad, the theory of these being 'bundled packages' lines up surprisingly well. if we assume a modest increase in the purchase price of new mbps, maybe these bundled deals would offer a discount of 100-200 dollars for a mbp/ipad bundle.

just my thoughts

You missed my last post, it's becuse the lids ARE ipads.

P.S. - I can't wait to see specs on these new models. i7 + new GPU + ExpressCard back is what I'm hoping for. ExpressCards are integral for our work and we haven't been able to buy 15" models for a while because Apple robbed them of one of their best features and replaced it with an SD card slot (because PROS really use SD CARDS??? WTF??).

Interesting marketing idea. If it is true there are going to be a lot of disappointed and angry people.

Burns!

LOL, that Burns picture tickled me. I can see it now, Jobs refuses to retire, the board is disolved and he becomes the tyrannical leader of Apple as a 104 year old withered Super CEO.

At everyone who's worried about no refreshes on the 13" MBP - I highly doubt that's gonna happen. I'm pretty sure it's their best selling laptop model.

im not suggesting that you will ONLY be able to purchase a new mbp with an ipad, simply that apple might offer a reduced price, bundled package.

something along the lines of saving $200 off your mbp purchase, if bundled with an ipad.

combo deal.

Not that easy, Apple could give all notebooks quad core i7s, cut prices in half, and still have people complain about lack of Blu Ray.

Speaking of which, why doesn't Apple support Blu Ray yet? Is blu ray a resource hog or something, and shortens dramatically the battery life of Mac Pros? :D

Just kidding, but seems weird having to switch to Windows in order to watch a blu ray movie. Is there a way to do it natively on OS X?

It is because shipping them over here just costs so much money per unit.

they ship from china and china is closer to Oz then the US. its probably more to the fact that we are a small market compared to other world markets . lets just what and see how the 64GB 3G iPad will cost here? im gonna say $1129AUD

There better be Core i5/i3 Dual Core Processors.. I mean Core 2 Duo is ages old =/, was introduced in 2006.. Its a bout time Apple upgraded to the new processors..

agreed that its time for an update. but remember that Dell, Compaq, et al still offer laptops with Celeron and Pentium processors! Apple has spoiled us to only premium processors, so its easy to feel like they're "behind", when really their entry level is still quite capable.

Just checked the UK online store, and two of the 15" models have been pushed back from 24hrs shipping to 2 business days. I wonder if this could also point to imminent updates? They have always been within 24hrs... until now.

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTAyNTQzMzk

Interesting stuff, I suspect (no hard evidence) that Apple carry more of the base configurations hence them still being 24hrs.

As for discounted iPads this does make sense, look at the console market. It's a well known fact the PS3 was sold at a loss for some time as the money is in the games market it supports. The more people that own iPads (and iPhones for that matter) the more money the store and in turn Apple and developers can make.

Terrible response. Compaq is a cheap brand. With dell, they offer CHEAP $499-$699 plastic junk laptops with Celeron and Pentium chips. Apple's notebooks start ate $999. I can configure a dell at $999 with a Core i5 and its more powerful. I can get a Latitude E6410 with an i7 and other nice features for under $1499. Thats WAY more powerful than a MBP at $1499. It sounds like i'm trolling, but you can't compare a $600 laptop to a $999 one. The fanboys will tell me to get a dell then. But I think i want an iPad instead. I have a computer at home, and on the go, I could use iPad. I use a computer mainly for media (music, movies) web browsing (facebook macrumors and other sites) YouTube and iWork. An iPad can do all that on a nice display

I waited and waited and waited since October for a new 13 inch MacBook Pro! Every night (An exaggeration, of course) I went to sleep dreaming of that beautiful aluminum body with a Core i5 processor under the hood and hopefully 8gb of ram with a 500gb hard drive...

...and now the cheapest one is a $1799 15 inch!!!

I'm in high school, for god sake! It will take me another 6 months of chores to come up with 700 more dollars! There are like no jobs in our town...:(:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seriously, guys. What reason could they have for not updating the 13 inch models?
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

those look more expensive than the current systems. makes no sense when other manufacturer's laptops usually go down in price rather than up...

Maybe the 13inch wasn't leaked. I hope they update that sucker.

I never thought, I would do that, but...

We keep hearing that, but "geeks" on Apple forums make up a fraction of the market. Apple won't even notice. And they'll just keep hitting sales records.

Yes, without customers they are nothing. No kidding.

if there's enough of us that decides not to buy

Who is "us"?

...QFT.

Unfortunately. As a matter of fact I can state two simple things:

a) As a former fanboy and now stock options holder I really enjoy Apple's move toward marketshare. Gives me more money.

b) As someone coming from a time, when they sold THE ENTRY-LEVEL iBOOK at the price-point of those MacBookPros, I can assure you, that Apple lost their quality stance. And they shall not receive money from me as a customer again. Ever since the Intel switch Apple left the premium customers in the cold.

The only product in Apple's lineup that caters my expectations of build quality is the MacBookAir. Alas it is absolutely underpowered.

The rest of the line is the same cheapo Chinese-crafted lowest denominator stuff you find in other boxes with OS X on it. OS X is the main Mac buying factor.

So basically Apple doesn't deliver the hardware I want - and if they really should dare to make another iPhone-centric WWDC and leave 10.7 in the dust - well, then they also don't deliver the software I want.

FWIW I know many more people will still buy Macs. And it will be good for my money.

But it's just saddening to see, what happened to the best PC company in the world. Argh - they should've just gone the Cell route and take that Processor to the next level instead of Intel...:eek::eek:

Intel Integrated Graphics!

Since the Arrandale chip now comes with integrated graphics that is way less powerfull than the current Nvidia 9400, this would actually a step backwards for the 13".

We will see how this gets resolved by Apple.

Hi,
reading here for some time waiting for the MBP upgrade I am a bit worried about the part of the discussion regarding extended warranties.
I have had a lot of notebooks beginning with a NEC Multispeed (8086 CPU, no harddrive, 2 3,5" disks, monochrome display, DOS), an Olivetti (colour DSTN disply, Windows 3.1), discounter notebooks with WIN 98 and several others to my last Samsung with Windows XP. None of these experienced hardware errors, heck even my 12 year old discounter notebook is still working (of course the battery has died some time ago).
Reading about lots of people needing an extended warranty due to hardware errors within the first 2 or 3 years after purchase makes me a bit worried about my decision to buy my first apple notebook. It seems the highly praised quality of the MBPs is not that great!? Perhaps I should stick to the brands I have experienced them not to go havoc after only some years of usage!?

Regards

ppgg

I dare say that if you got on a forum relating to your brand whatever you would find as many or more complaints of hardware failure.....so it is at the very least a wash of equal to or the Apple MBP may be better. I would not be concerned...
and that is all I am going to say about that..<He Grins>

Is the Intel® Core™ i7-620M (2.66GHz, 4M cache) with Turbo Boost Technology an arrendale chip? Wikipedia says it is

The laptop that this chip is in also has a desecrate 512MB NVIDIA NVS 3100M with ExpressCard. i'm not sure if those graphics are more powerful than the current MBP graphics.

Hold on for the "official" announcement, and then cut loose if needed.

Come on people, let's not overanalyze anything. this really is just a small snippet that was leaked. Who knows, in the grand scheme of things, all MBP's could be getting updated but until we know, we have to be patient.

of course i would love to see a Blu-Ray drive and a nice 6-8 GB ram on an i5 but we'll see what happens

This is a forum. People are free to share their own opinions. Posts like this piss me off. We KNOW (most) people don't care what we are going to buy or not buy. But since this is a community, that's why we SHARE what we're thinking.
In that case, i think you're wrong. [posts about "if Apple doesn't do X, then i'm going to buy PC model Y" are just too self-centered to be useful (especially at a Mac-oriented website).]

So I started working in the IT Admin industry when I was 10? (Sweet)

MorphingDragon is a nickname, so what? I know a 32 year-old that has a nickname fluffybunnies. A user around here has an original picture of Where The Wild Things Are for his avatar.

What's wrong with games? Why can't an adult play games? Are you that boring? Would you rather I has an avatar of my own business' Logo?

Solve this problem, I'm a University Student, I'm old enough to be GST registered and to old a credit card. Yet I'm not so old i'm dead. How old am I?
Um, ever consider changing your moniker to BoringDragon? [how in blazes does a "New MacBook Pro" thread devolve into so many posts all about you?]

For the record: i called April in "Waiting for Arrandale part [?]" back in late February sometime.

The extra $100 could be to offset some of the cost for introducing a dedicated graphics card to the low-end 15".

USB 3.0 in 2011 for the MacBook Pro

I don't think we'll see USB 3.0 in the next revision until 2011. However the i5 will surely be there and what I think will be interesting is to see what GPU Apple ends up using. I'll be holding off until USB 3.0 is released as I will only want OSX on the system drive an all my personal/ business files on a really fast external drive.
