i needed one months ago. my masters project is all but falling apart right now because i refused to "update" to stupid core2

Are you SERIOUS??? I've lived with a 2006 White MacBook the past 4 years. I'm a Senior Software Developer / Architect at my company. (Been in the field for 15 years). I also create iPhone apps on the side. My White MacBook is looking a little rough, but it does everything I need it to do. It's a little slow sometimes, but I can get everything done.

I'm looking to upgrade my screen from 13" to 15", and get a faster processor to speed up my development a bit, but I can still wait a few more years if necessary. It would be NICE to get a new MacBook Pro, but I don't NEED to.

What, exactly, do you do that your masters project is 'falling apart' because you don't have the latest and greatest? What if you did this same project 2 years ago - would it have been impossible???

Pricing

Only the low-end 15" Macbook pro is more expensive.. other models are cheaper right or the same! Why is everybody complaining about the price?

or am I missing something?

no 13 inch?!

WHAT!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS NOW JUST SO THE 13 INCH WOULD GET UPDATED WITH i3,i5,i7,i9. whichever one. but now, there isnt gunna be one? the 13 inch MBP is still gunna have core 2 duo?? wow... or do u think that they are going to get updated, but the screen shot above just doesnt show it or apple doesnt want people to know of the 13 inchers. and also, how do people know that those part numbers correspond with the 15 and 17 inch mbp? the 13 inch could be 1799...

Maybe the whole pricing is for 13 inch model. All the other models will be ceased.

1799.- comes with 40gb SSD and 512MB Ram
2299.- will have 60GB SSD and 2GB Ram

No Ethernet on ether model.

And: It will run iPhone OS 4.0

Perhaps they will just date the 13" to have a hard drive as big as the 13" MB at 250GB and keep the price at $1,200. And put the iX chips in the higher end models - making them, low end 13" MBP, still over priced.

Anyway, I don't believe anything I read these days. When it happens it happens, the question is when is when???

This would be surprising because the Air has major limitations. One example: you can't add more RAM. I think the 13" MBP is safe. They might call it a MacBook and drop the Pro but it would be the same computer. And I doubt they'd even do that.

I see what you mean, but in this scenario, the actual MBA would be updated, obviously. I think it'd be more a case of "reworking the whole line so they're all very thin (maybe not as thin as the MBA now but very close) and look all the same in different sizes w/ different specs" than just "reworking 15" and 17", dropping the 13" and replacing it with an unchanged MBA".

Have a look to Best Buy online store. They are out of stock of 15´ and 17´ MBP, but they are plenty of stock of low end 13´. What does it means? it seems to be true that they would only update 15 & 17? :(

I'm not quite getting the issues over the suggested pricing here?

Firstly, they're just temp place holders on a system. The prices may not even be right.

Second, up until the most recent release the base 15" was $1799 anyways. Apple dropped the price because the last update brought little more than an inbuilt battery. If this is a chip refresh, most likely memory, HDD updates. Possible (though unlikely) dvd/blu-ray drive updates, the extra $100 could be justified.

That said, Apple obviously became more aware of how their products prices were affecting their image over the last 18 months. They attempted to overcome it with advertising, and a price drop. They even purposely made the iPad ALOT cheaper than most were expecting. I don't get why they'd go as far as to undo some of this by upping the prices of their notebooks.

Woo-Hoo

I really hope this news comes to fruition, its my 22nd Birthday on the 13th so this would be a lovely surprise! (Ah cheers Steve) I've got an almost 2 year old 2.2ghz 15" and will be finishing University this year so have decided to make the most of my student discount whilst I still can.

I agree that it is nice that Apple products can be sold on for a very good price, especially if you've looked after them, when you want to upgrade. I am still undecided as to if I want a 13" or 15", depending on what's released my decision may be made for me.

iPhone contract is up in a few days too and I'm trying to decide whether or not to wait for the next revision. Being as decent contracts are now 18 months long I think I may wait, also great to see that I can get nearly £200 trade in on my 3G 16gb.

The only question is if these are released on Tuesday will I be able to abstain from buying myself an expensive Birthday present, especially as student loans are going in this Monday, I think.

i know this is a mind-boggling concept for some, but maybe--just maybe--those model numbers arent comprehensive.

youll get your 13 inch update, stop whining everyone.

I find it slightly funny to be reading so many posts stating "if this, then I won't be buying..."

Apple will not suffer because of your lack of business. They seem have a pretty good idea on how to sell their merchandise!
APPLE will suffer...if there's enough of us that decides not to buy.....and its important that Apple remembers this...without the customers..they are nothing

Hmm... If the 17" gets a quad-core and an AMD 5xxx series GPU, I might be tempted to get one. Been dying for a higher resolution display for my laptop. BUT, I wonder if I can still edit pictures in the car with its bigger size :D.

Honestly for me, if there isn't a quad in the 17", I won't see the reason to spend the green.

And oh man, if they ditch the SuperDrive, I will be ecstatic. I ditched by SuperDrive for an 80GB SSD drive. Love it if Apple moved to allowing us to have two hard drives and/or 3 memory slots. I say 3 because the i5's have support for triple channel RAM. HAWT.

You're thinking of the desktop i7 and l5; Clarkdale.

(Please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong)
Because of their unrealistic power consumption and exaggerated thermal envelope, Apple will not adopt Clarkdale for their laptops. Rather they will adopt their mobile variant; Arrandale.

The Arrandale i5 and i7 have only 2 physical cores. And they also have support for only dual channel RAM. Sadly, your quad-core triple-channel dreams will not be sated yet.

I'm pretty sure rational thought went out the window around the 10th page of the first "Waiting for Arrandale" thread.

What If......

What if what these good, best and better prices reflect is not JUST a new macbook pro.....

given that apple has just released the ipad, is there not some logic in them offering some incentive to purchase an Ipad along with a notebook?

I propose that the 4 prices leaked represent the bundled cost of new mbps AND an Ipad.

Good: 1799.00 (13’ base mbp and Ipad)
Best 1: 2199.99 (15’ base mbp and Ipad)
Best 2: 2299.99 (15 with discrete graphics, and Ipad)
Better 1999.99 (high end 13 mbp and Ipad)

if we use the current prices of 13 and 15 mbps, as well as the 499 ipad, the theory of these being 'bundled packages' lines up surprisingly well. if we assume a modest increase in the purchase price of new mbps, maybe these bundled deals would offer a discount of 100-200 dollars for a mbp/ipad bundle.

just my thoughts

I'd be curious to know what other sources MR has confirmed the SKUs with. Know there was ajayvarma87 who reported he'd found the same models on the system @ Comet (UK retailer), where he works.

I wonder if MR are referring to this or other sources? If it's other then that'd be a minimum of 3 which is looking rather good.

We keep hearing that, but "geeks" on Apple forums make up a fraction of the market. Apple won't even notice. And they'll just keep hitting sales records.

Yes, without customers they are nothing. No kidding.

if there's enough of us that decides not to buy

Who is "us"?

The sooner these stupid things come out, the sooner "I'm Waiting for Arrandale part XX" stops spamming forum spy. Good riddance.

Not that easy, Apple could give all notebooks quad core i7s, cut prices in half, and still have people complain about lack of Blu Ray.

Doubt it, surely if they were to do that they would have 4 other SKUs that aren't bundled. Don't think Apple would be crazy enough to force new laptop buyers to pay extra for an iPad on top and not give an option to just buy the laptop.

I've no interest in the iPad and if it was the case that I'd have to pay even more than normal to have an extra I don't want, then I wouldn't bother. Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did this.

The fact that the prices closely match current 15" and 17" specs is far more logical.

BWhashhAHHAHhAHahahhaha.... ohh mercy (wipes tear from eye).

Cmon guy, we're talking about Apple here. Since when do they care about what their customers want?

Apple Customer: "I'd like more 'Pro' features in my macbook pro..."

Apple: "How about a magical iPad instead?"

Apple Customer: "Well... I don't WANT an iPad or have a use for one... but OK! :)"

Apple: "Excellent..."
