I don't know how you guys think it looks great from those pictures but putting anything on the monitor will degrade the colour on the LCD.

Yeah, that is pretty much my concern as well.

While that is true, a larger problem for some of us is the glare caused by lighting from behind us or overhead.

So I assume that text on a white background would look a little blurred? Can you post any pics to demonstrate the graininess?

I haven't been able to capture this, it's a very fine graininess. I wouldn't say text looks blurred, it's still readable.

If it weren't for this graininess, it would be a perfect solution. I'd like to point out that I haven't noticed any significant color/brightness changes when I added the anti-glare film. If it weren't for this grainy overall appearance, it would be perfect. Maybe a higher quality anti-glare film?

I'm anxious to hear what people think about the Power Support one when it comes out. I have the anti-glare screen on my iPhone, and it's absolutely perfect. Big big ol' notebook screen is a different monster, though.

¿Digital fix?

It seems to me that Apple or a 3rd party can develop a digital fix to the screen's brightness in order to represent "print-like" colors. Since a laptop will never be exact, close enough would be a good solve and not require a hardware change.

For me, an anti-gloss filter is great for moving around outdoors, but color-wise I would prefer information direct from the source. It's all just a bad dream, right?

I was disappointed that there was no matte option for the new MBPs but I still decided to buy one and see how well an anti-glare film would work. There's a significant difference and no more looking at my own reflection! Installation was simple. It's just like those invisible screens. Way easier though since it's just a flat screen and don't have to sit there trying to install it perfectly around round edges.

Bought one from http://www.photodon.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=MX15WNG. They have two options, standard and thin. I asked if there's any viewing differences and they said there isn't so I went with the thin one. It arrived quickly too. Ordered on the 15th, shipped out next day, and arrived the 18th.

Hard to get much information from your pictures. The flash was used for one shot and not the other and one shot is much closer.

A similar product for the iPhone exists and in my opinion dulled the screen so I don't use it (there's the protective vs the anti glare I believe). This does not seem like something I'd want on my screen as it would reduce the quality of the picture.

My previous version MBP came with a glossy screen. The only time I notice a glare is when my MBP is turned off. When it's on I don't notice a glare at all. In your 1st photo you used a flash so of course you will have a bright glare. But in the 2nd photo with the anti-glare screen on, I still see your reflection. Therefore, your post is misleading. I am sure the quality of your graphics and colors will diminish with that anti-glare screen on.

the new MBP screens are much more reflective than the previous ones. you need to see it in person to see the difference...

That's nice, that is a handheld portable device that likely uses low grade films. They are not even close to having the optical quality that high end screen (or lens) films.

There are many different types of plastic and adhesives available. The coating on mostly all matte screens is a high grade, often polarized film of plastic mounted on the outside glass (or plastic in some cases) panel outside of the liquid crystal layer. Depending on the quality of materials used, aftermarket films can be as good, or better than those found on factory Matte screens.

Too early to tell, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have many options available in the future, featuring films with superb optical qualities.

Custom cut to fit complete screen to frame with rounded corners to match and notch for camera top center.

Looks very good. If it's the same quality like the iMac anti gloss film from Photodon (see comparison pictures at Photodon), it would be the best "workaround" for Apple's little mistake

Those pics of the Photodon antiglare film look great. This may just be that item that persuade me to buy a new glossy MBP.

Whoa. I would like to see some more detailed pics if anyone gets one of these. I don't mind the occasional glare but this looks sweet.

How easy was the installation?? Lots of air bubbles? Because I had enough trouble putting the crystal film on my iPhone

I'm interested in the OP's response as well. I'm planning on buying a new MBP and the glossy doesn't bother me in the least. Maybe if this solution works everyone will stop bitching about the glossy screens.

Yah, because we all REALLY want to spend an extra $50 on something that was free on the previous model.

Meanwhile, nearly every other computer made has a matte screen *option*. That's all we want. I know Apple loves to simplify production, but are they going to do this to the point where you can only pick either an iPhone or MacBook Pro in one model from them? Is the ghost of Henry Ford running things?

Looks great - would love to buy one but apperently they don't ship to Europe :-(

I'm not interested anymore in the glossy MBP (I got myself a classic one), but I have to say that this film doesn't look too bad. I think they ship to Europe. Even if I think that it still sucks to to buy something that was built in. And of course a sticker will never be the same than a true matte screen.

wow, that photodon anti-glare on the 15.4 unibody looks amazing, i'm probably going to buy one, but blurring is a huge concern for me.

also i've had trouble installing protective films for my iphone and other even smaller electronics before, is this pretty hard cause of it's size and might you post a video of an install to better prepare myself?

So, abiyng87 (post 11), it looks like we didn't do enough complaining! mbpdiva is just learning about the horrid glassy screen.
I went into an Apple store here in The Galaxy last week, and I surfed the web on a new glass MBP and guess what? I totally didn't notice the xtra glossy screen or any glare. My advice is just ignore the glossy screen and enjoy the experience of owning a new MBP. :)
