MBPs are their flagship macs though.
Exactly.
I am not expecting a huge change this time, but Jobs' comment about "the future of notebooks" being related to the Macbook Air is definitely an indication that Apple is working on something. Might not happen until the next refresh or two.
The 2009 iMac was a major change, 21 & 27" screens, quad-core chips, IPS display, etc...
Do you see it as a major form factor change? Personally, I don't. IMO, plastic to aluminum was major - that was a significant change in form factor. That 2009 update wasn't a major change - from ten meters away, I dont think a lot of people could tell the difference.
OTOH and on the MBP side, discrete to unibody was a major change. SD card, availability of anti glare, etc, dropping swappable batteries, etc. These things don't change the form. They're minor modifications - the platform is the same.
I agree with you that this time may not be a redesign, all I am saying is that Apple does not solely release computer changes via event anymore. They like to focus on iOS for those now as much as possible. Even the "Back to the Mac" event was how they could incorporate iOS strategies into the Mac.
Well minor changes, no, and this was my point. We're about to see a minor refresh, perhaps a change or two (maybe three) on the peripherals side. Updated display/resolution, change in ports, etc. The form factor will remain the same.
A change to Liquidmetal, much thinner lower case and the like - these things are just crazy talk.
You definitely have a point about iOS dominating Apple events though. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, a lot of my day to day computing tasks are done on an iOS device - before four years ago, I took my PB/MBP everywhere. These days, not so much. I see this as a positive thing.
OTOH, there's a lot of things that are still missing in OS X and on the Mac that I'd like to see happen because I spend a lot more time sitting in front of my MBP than I do staring at my iPhone.
Anyway, I'd prefer to be wrong, since I'm looking to upgrade on the next product refresh following this one and I don't want to be a first gen user.
