AppleInsider reports that production of the new MacBook Pros are already underway and that volume shipments will begin as early as the first week of March.
A person familiar with the matter said the Mac maker currently anticipates an introduction of the new models within about two weeks time, which would represent a delay of just a couple of weeks from when the company initially hoped to usher the new models onto the market.
The MacBook Pros have been due for a refresh and supplies have begun to constrain. An interesting additional note from the rumor site, however, hinted that Sandy Bridge may not be the only change in the laptop model. Apple is reportedly making some additional enhancements, though no specifics were given.

Many have suggested that the new MacBook Pros may take cues from the recently refreshed MacBook Airs.

It's about time.
I can't imagine them making it thinner unless they remove the superdrive. I actually use mine, so I'm glad I have my MBP how it is.

9to5mac reported the SuperDrive would be optional, which I'd def. be okay with. I'd get mine with-- while I don't use it too often, it's really inconvenient to not have one when I need it.

How surprising... just as much as the rumor that said that the iPad 2 will be thinner, lighter and more powerful -_-'

This is getting ridiculous. Let me start a rumor:

"The next iteration of [Apple product] will be an improved version of the current one!"

I think iSight webcam desperately needs an update. Inexpensive Windows based laptops had "high definition" webcams for ages now. Even the iPod touch shoots 720p these days.

I've been holding out for the refresh for a few months. Can't wait. I'd love an optional optical and probably wouldn't take it. Ssd also!

Definitely agree. My SuperDrive in my iMac died. I've been crying for the past few weeks.

Count down is on! Hoping for some significant changes that make all this waiting around worth while!

I bet they call it Facetime HD when it does come out. I bet the iSight name will die with the new MBP and the iMac refresh.

Surprised we haven't seen any leaks like pics, etc if it's this close. Hoping its true though.

So it may be:

1) that the new MBPs will look the same, OR
2) that the release date is later than 1st March.

Do you think the retail stores will sell out of MBPs on the day they're released? I'm not familiar with how hectic the stores are on laptop refresh days...

The only way MBP is going to boot up faster than MBA will be putting SSD as standard. Are they really going to do this?

MBP needs to lose hard drive just like MBA.

Not at all, no one at Apple cares about Macs. I went to the store the first day of the aluminum Mac Mini release, and the employee didn't even know they'd been updated. He actually told me I was wrong until I showed him Apple's website.

Possible enhancements, eh?

I'm thinking 3G (or maybe 4G) built into every laptop Apple sells. That would make a lot of sense to me. I'd love to see a value added bonus for those who have both Macs and iDevices. I'm thinking something along the lines of HP's WEBOS tablet/phone interaction (looking at a site on your computer? Tap your iPhone to it and the website shows up on your phone). There's also the near field payments I'm hearing about on iPhones; this gets a lot better if it's in iPads and Macs too... not so they can make a payment, but RECEIVE a payment. If every Mac (and iPad) was a Point Of Sale system out of the box, that would be pretty neat. A whole ecosystem of making and taking payments.

Unless they can put in a 512GB SSD and still keep the price of a 15" to $2,199.

9to5mac guesses on a lot of things too but not neccessarily correct. What may be more feasible is to give an option to remove the optical drive for some additional storage/SSD/battery.

I would be interested in them, but as Apple is starting to feel more like a hardcore monopoly than Microsoft ever did.... With no Blu-Ray and locking down program sales on iphone/ipads, censoring software that can be used on devices.

I am starting to think of getting an HP Beats laptop or maybe a Sony Vaio as a replacement for my MBP.
