Apple's supply chain is beginning mass production of next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips in August, according to Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes. With only a few days remaining in the month, that means that assembly of the laptops has more likely than not already begun.

This information aligns with display industry analyst Ross Young claiming that display shipments for the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are underway.

In a May edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said "you should expect M4 Pro and M4 Max chips later this year as part of the high-end MacBook Pro." He also expects Apple to release three new Macs with the standard M4 chip later this year, including a lower-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini.

October is a common month for Apple to announce new Macs, including the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips last October. If that pattern repeats itself, the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips are likely around two months away from launching.

The standard M4 chip already debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year, and Geekbench results showed it provided up to 25% faster multi-core CPU performance compared to the M3 chip. Likewise, moderate year-over-year performance and power efficiency improvements can be expected from the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

No major design changes are expected for the next MacBook Pro models, with an OLED display in particular likely still a few years away for the laptops. Gurman said Apple is also planning to make the MacBook Pro thinner at some point "over the next couple of years."

Apple's last Mac-focused event was held on October 30, 2023, and there is certainly potential for another October event this year.

I used to have MBP's even though I really didn't need the Pro part. But these days with the new MacBook Air's and the small bezel and the M chips, they're fitting the bill for my needs well.

If I were into A/V production, I am sure the MBP would be the direction I would go.

Apple continuously staggering M releases keeps me from upgrading as often as I might. I purchsed an M1 mini, and everytime I keep considering something more powerful (MB Pro or Studio) I hesitate.

Currently, I was thinking about a new Studio. Then I realize it's still on M2, so I think about an M3 MBP and then see that it is about to go to M4. I shrug my shoulders and say "well the M1 mini is good enough, so I will just wait until it is unuseable". I miss the bleeding edge days of wanting to have the "latest and greatest".

IM WAITING for this!!!!! Hahaha 😂 I sold my tower perhaps too soon - for the first time in 32 years I don’t have a Mac or any computer :( very hard lol 😆 computer withdrawals… will be interesting to see the prices of the new models…

Seems about right. Just swap the new chips in. No other changes. Can start assembly now and launch in 2 months.

I am thinking the sweet spot was the 18GB M3 14Pro when it was on sale for $500 off. I'm skeptical to think if I'm in the market for a new computer that it would be worth the replacement at full price.
That was a pretty sweet deal for the new M4 models not even being released yet. I have the 16" version at work and it is beautifully fast and efficient.

i wish apple would have an option or an expansion slot that would allow an intel or amd coprocessor. i miss being able to do real cross platform work on a macbook at a reasonable speed and i”m sure many others do too. it would probably ironically be more efficient as well as the co-processor could be powered down when not in use, best of both worlds with the M driving the show. also would be great for gaming. unfortunately, don’t think we will ever see such a thng.

Yep... my 2013 Intel MBP 16 is crying while the heat it generates toasts my hands, and the fan noise drowns out every other sound within a mile of me.

My 2013 MBP knows that in 2 months, it will - at LONG LAST - finally get shelved and start collecting dust as I replace it with a 2024 M4-Pro MBP 16.

SOOOO looking forward to the M4 Pro MBP!!

I used to have MBP's even though I really didn't need the Pro part.
Hence why Apple released the 8GB MacBook Pro M3. It's for users like yourself. You get the MacBook Pro (in name only) without the Pro part (you get 8GB memory and a non-Pro/non-Max M3 chip) 🤣

It will be interesting to see if the Studio is updated to the M4, or will it not be updated until next June. Since they didn't updated this year we may see it this fall with an M4.
