I thought Student Discounts only applied to college students? explain this to me please

For US students, it is indeed limited to college/graduate students. I believe that poster was saying that he got lucky.

It applys to any teacher or student. Any teacher K+ has the discount but I think for students, you need to be high school +.

No, it does not apply to any student. While any teacher qualifies, students must be at the college level or higher for the US student discount.

The best discount from Apple is to buy the $99 ADC Student Membership and that gives you a once-per-lifetime discount which is around 20%. Once again, you must be in college to do so or know someone. That is what I am doing to buy a MBP oce they are updated.

The ADC discount is best for a very pricey purchase, as this will maximize the return on the initial sunk cost ($99).

For this poster, I think Mac Connection will be the best bet. Fairly reliable rating, no sales tax (though local "use" taxes may vary), and generally good prices.

amazon's prices are very competitive, especially with their rebates. don't feel pressured to buy because of expiring rebates, though; they're rolling. when one expires, another one begins.

Oh yeah, forgot about Amazon!:eek::p

The base mbp goes from $2000 to $1600. However, you have to remember that you put in $100 ($99), so you've gained a net hundred over the basic student discount. Since HD and other upgrades qualify, the ADC discount is best used with a very hefty purchase (the mid mbp fully decked out, or a 17 mbp, again fully decked out, or a Mac Pro).

Simple. I explained that my son was accepted at college and was starting next semester. No problem.

This is only meant for soon-to-be college students (those that have been accepted).

If that wasn't the case for your son, you lied.

Here is a link to the Developer which states all of the discounts.

Yes, this is why I am going to be buying the top-of-the-line Macbook Pro 15" and add the 7200 RPM HDD.

It depends what state you are in. I would suggest going to cnet.com, finding the Macbook you want on there, type in your Zip code, and the best prices will be pulled up for you.
