there is no need for devise between macbooks and iphone, and apple are not going to make a whole new sdk for this devise that would be no more successful than the failed umpc's. But we will still here this rumor after every apple statement and before every apple event

Ok, I have a need for one. Thanks for speaking for all of us, not.

Connect this story to the GPU article and snow leopard.

If Apple is having intel dust off old boards for the MBA why not have them make something new for this.

Using snow leopard to downsize the battery and graphics requirements why not build a $900-$1200 Tablet. The draw for laptops will always be there for word processing but how much do you need a keyboard these days.

Just to post in the forum?

Ha. And yet it would still sell! Remember that year when people plopped down $600 for a phone? :)

Yeah BUT! In order to use that phone one needs to make a commitment for 2 years which including the cost of the phone, one is now obligated for approximately $$$2K! That's a bit more then $600!--)))) ;)

This doesn't really sound very true especially the fact that it could run app stores apps. That just puzzles me a bit as why you would want to too

Apple tends to try new things to see the reaction and to keep their name in the tech loop (not that they have too). Yet with the Air, and iPhone, and family of iPods, they are keeping everyone else on their toes. Think back when Apple was almost of out business. There were basically no real options, everything looked the same and there was not much in the way of innovation until Uncle Steve back back and changed the face of the tech world....so to speak. :)

i think it would be really hard to use. I would be much happier with a new macbook in aluminum and a real graphics card

Who would buy one? Me.

I'd love one for my Photoshop work. Sure, I could buy a small Cintiq for a grand and get the pressure sensitivity but that's not that big of a deal for me. I'd love a stand alone tablet I can "finger paint" with.

Besides, I'm a big guy. A standard PDA is a little too measly for me to use on a daily basis and I would love a full OS X portable device I can tote around like that. Granted, I could just get a MacBook or MacBookAir, but I still dig the tablet form factor.

And a lot of people are bringing up the "failed" UMPC and tablet form factors that have been money pits for PC manufacturers. First of all, there are a LOT of reasons why those form factors haven't been successful and most of those center around poor execution of the software. I've used a tablet laptop before and the Windows interface for the pen was clunky at best and slow as molasses even when other apps would run smooth and quick. As for the UMPC the problem is that people want their desktop system in something the size of their wallet and can't accept it when that doesn't work out. It's a niche market and if you look at the success of the Eee PC from ASUS you can see that if you market it to the right demographic then it'll be a success. I firmly believe Apple could pull off a tablet with the execution it so richly deserves. Look what they did with the iPhone.

maybe it won't be a keyboardless tablet but you will have the ability to spin the screen and use it in touch screen mode like a windows tablet pc

...everything looked the same and there was not much in the way of innovation until Uncle Steve came back...

So the product line of gadgets that are unrivaled.

The MBA
The Mac (all in one PC)
iPod
iPhone

All of these have innovations that weren't compromised to fit the mainstream market. (and yes there are similar but they don't compare.)

As OSX evolves hardware has to be the next step. If snow Leopard will add no new features to line in a large scale it must definitely change the hardware line up. More availability in more places.

Tablets
iPhone
The return of the Newton (haha)
Who knows what the next product could be...

I can't really see iPhone apps running on a larger screen, but the App store for full mac apps would be very interesting.

I really agree with this. I'll probably buy a Macbook Pro when the next revision comes out. And I'll probably do the same as I'm doing now with my Powerbook - lug it around with me back and forth from work. Yet when I have it at work, I rarely take it out because it's such a pain. I would love to have something bigger than an iPod touch and smaller than a traditional or even ultraportable laptop that I could just keep next to me to doodle on (hopefully - it would have to accept stylus input), keep notes, check personal email, and goof around on Macrumors on. And I do believe that Apple could make it viable. But that's just me. Of course, this is all dependant on price. But recent comments seem encouraging.

an app store for macs is otherwise know as the internet. you download a program and then use it. the only difference is that it isn't bought thru itunes

1 usb , no drive and a teeny tiny 80g's would be a complete waste of time for me.

But you see, that's for you. Not everyone needs high specs ot be happy. I run a little ASUS Eee PC 701 and am absolutely in love with it. Granted, it's not my only or even primary machine but it gets all travel usage and quite a bit at home even when I could use my esktop.

What about something that's the size as the Palm Foleo? (About the size of a sheet of paper folded in half.) Easy to carry, easy to type. No trackpad, just a QWERTY board and a touch screen. Revolutionary? They'd probably say so but I don't know if I would. Evolutionary? Definitely.

NO. Please no. No no no no no no.

BIGGER IPOD TOUCH PLEASE.

Somehow I just can't see this turning out very good, but we'll see. I may have second thoughts on this device.

I thought that this was the new product to come later this year. It fit in all too well with the statements made at the financial conference.

Doubtful there will be any new MacBooks or MBPs before the Sept. promotion ends.
Why? The iMacs were redesigned last year while the promotion was ongoing.

Slot-loading SuperDrive.

Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi.
Is THAT why Snow Leopard has internal PPC builds?

Accelerometer. GPS.
I'm not sure if I'd want to tilt a 12" screen around.

App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too.
Hmmm. A weird hybrid of iPod touch and Mac. I'm assuming it's a slate and not a convertible?

If it does come out, then I'll probably buy it. Especially if it runs iPhone multi-touch as well as Mac OS X multi-touch.

The MacDailyNews comments are interesting too.

The AppleInsider rumor may have been a shelved prototype.

I guess I already do. :D

App Store compatible maybe--but not the SAME apps as on an iPhone or Touch. Those apps are made for 324x480 and wouldn't look great (or necessarily run right) if scaled to other sizes.

I suspect this kind of rumor will turn out to only have fragments of truth in it.

Still cool to imagine :)
