Nope, if they open it up and find smoke residue inside, they consider it hazardous material, and will not work on it.

No, they don't. You must have been reading the thread someone posted before. If your machine is caked in smoke residue, then yes, it is a hazard and you will have to get it cleaned (even in that fringe case, they did not deny coverage, but simply told him to get it cleaned before they would work on it). Try actually including facts instead of ridiculous assertions based on wild whims in your posts. Apple's policies are well documented.

I like to think I take great care of my stuff (and I do). I have all protection measures in place, a sleeve, cleaning cloths and iklear, a pretty well padded bag. But I bought it anyway, for peace of mind.

I like Apple support so I appreciate the additional two years.

I bought my rMBP in Ebay and it was a factory replacement from a faulty unit, the guy had the extended Apple Care warranty and it got transferred to my new unit. I'm not sure would had paid myself the extra $350, but after seeing all the issues of this machine with the screen here I'm glad am covered now for 3 years.

They rebuilt my first refurb MacBook and even replaced the battery that was a consumable under AppleCare.

My friend a construction business owner utterly dependent and totally clueless about computers has used their continuing support over the phone and in person a least monthly.

For us AppleCare has been a bargain.

However if you are computer savvy and your machines routinely last longer than three years maybe its not worth the money for you.
