This is my first apple computer/macbook pro and my second laptop. After issues with a Dell I was guaranteed that going Apple will solve all these issues. I got my new macbook pro about 3 months ago and two weeks ago I started getting the battery not charging issue. I'd left my system plugged in but powered down overnight, had power outage and reset in my area so I thought maybe that caused the issue. I took it to two apple dealers first one said nothing was wrong but it only worked for one night. I took it to the second dealer and it worked for week, but today it's back to the same not charging issue.

I don't mind buying a new MagSafe power adapter, but if this is something that's going to be a re-occurance then I think Apple need to fix this and soon. It serves no purpose if I can't use the system without the MagSafe power adapter.

Since I don't know enough to do what been suggested here I'm going to take it back into the dealer/associate to see if they can repair again.

Good Ol' Guess and Check

I was getting the 'Battery Not Charging' message and tried the SMC reset as well as new battery. I think I've solved the issue with the following.

One thing you should do, if you have more than one macbook at your disposal, is try another cable or try your cable with another computer. My roommate was using my cable and got the 'Not Charging' message, but with his cable he wasn't getting the message.

I took a good look at the conductor points on the MBP and saw it was sort of gritty, both in power point and on the power cord. I disconnected the power cord from the MBP and removed the battery (important) then used a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to clean the conductor point where the charger cable plugged into the MBP.

I also tried to wiggle the metal end of the plug further out of the cable, to make sure a good contact would be possible. I held the metal part and pushed on the white T part of the cable, where the light is, down the cable.

One of these or both seemed to resolve the issue. Though the light seems to go off after a few minutes, it's showing the battery charging in the menu bar.

Hi,

IT's my second post in the forum. Now i have another problem with my new macbookpro. The battery stopped charging itself for some reason i don't understand. When i plug my macbookpro to the electricity is says " NOT CHARGING" when i plug it out, i lose all the power. So it seems now the only way to work on my mac is to constantly keep it plugged to electricity which quite kills the idea of "laptops".

Why would the battery stop recharging all of a sudden? The AC adapter that came with macbook is working just fine. Also i can see the green light when it's plugged (when it's charging it was orange), it's constantly green.

Can somebody help?

Thanks in Advance,

I've had terrible problems with the same issue. Be careful you don't get taken for a ride with what they recommend you buy to fix it.

I have a macbook pro that is a couple of years old and out of warranty, but it only ever sat on my bedside table as an email/web browsing machine.

It's on its third power supply, 2nd battery, and 2nd power board inside the machine and I still have the problem that it won't charge. And I've had to pay for all the 'repairs' that have achieved nothing.

I love using a Mac, but damn the hardware is unreliable. Don't even get me started about my wife's Macbook that died after 13 months that they wouldn't replace!

Hi guys,
I've got the same issue... battery doesn't charge, magsafe stay green, tried reset SMC and NVRAM without success, tried another adaptor and put a new battery. What is the next step? replace the power board? The MBP doesn't even turn on with the new battery which is at least 60% of charge when you receive it... I tried to read all post about that and I'm very very fare away to the first Apple Store.

Thank you
Johan

I'm having the same issue as Uzumakyuubi except in my scenario ->> I left for a vacation for 2 weeks (and left my macbook unplugged) and today when I came back ->> my macbook (late 2007) battery wasn't charging.

Tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM but that didn't help :-/.

My macbook is out of warranty at this point and I was wondering if buying a new macbook battery would work?
I've seen some macbook batteries on ebay for around £20 ($32) - but I'm not sure whether it would work as I am not sure where the exact problem is.

Any ideas would truly be appreciated guys?

As stated earlier, PRAM/NVRAM has nothing to do with battery/power/charging issues, so resetting it is useless. You could take it to Apple and let them diagnose the problem and give you an estimate of what it would take to correct it.

I wouldn't trust or recommend any non-Apple battery, due to the number of problems reported with "knockoff" batteries. Also, there is no assurance that knockoff batteries have the same charging technology that Apple uses, involving the battery, the MagSafe adapter and the Mac's logic board.
The link below should answer most, if not all, of your battery/charging questions. If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend you take the time to read it.
