and even my PB G4 Ti 400 (i know thats 15:10 not 16:10) has a screen resolution with black borders, so i think the MBP has one, too. IMO there is a stretched resolution and one with black borders

it has to

I guess the next quesiton is will Apple use a Server Processor in the top of the line First Quad Intel Mac?
Woodcrest is a workstation/server processor, just like Xeon. It will be used in anything that needs two sockets - it's the cheapest multi-socket capable chip.

Xeons have been available in two socket and multi-socket versions for many years. Most of the current ones are basically Pentium 4s with the additional logic for inter-socket synchronization enabled.

Woodcrest/Conroe/Merom are basically the same design, with different capabilities and power envelopes. Don't think of Woodcrest as a "server" chip per se, it's just the version of the Core 2 line that is more powerful and supports two sockets.

If Apple wants more than two cores this summer, Woodcrest is the only option.

Quad Core Woodcrest Macs by WWDC Aparently
Considering the HP/Dell/IBM will be selling quad-core Woodcrest systems in June, Apple should be able to get something out by August.

They'll need to keep the quad PMG5 around at least another 6 months or so - until the fat binary situation is better they can't cut off the supply of the systems that run pro software best.

It's starting to look like a skunk to me. I;m sure if this were really happening Tuesday, more buzz would be happening the last 2 days....All of this is based on an unverified source!!!!!!!!
My source at a store in Canada knows nothing of boxes or materials to remain untouched until Tuesday. Nothing..and They'd tell me..

mikea,

I get it, you dont think its going to happen today. Thanks for your input. For someone who really hopes the MacBook appears tuesday, you seem awfully intent on spreading your own... er... rumour that it wont be. Truth is, nobody knows, thats why we are reading the rumour sites. Do we really have to read the same comments from you on EVERY! page spread over 3 or 4 days?? We get it, you dont think they are coming today. Please, do like you say and just come back once it's released, perhaps the excitement of the impending release has given you "Annoying post fever".

Quad Woodcrest and G5 PowerMacs Coexisting In The Line?

Thanks Alden. That really clarifys the whole line for us now.

So I take it that Woodcrest is "Core 2 Extreme"?

The Quad G5's have been on the Refurb page since early February. I guess it won't hurt for them to stay on there til Adobe ships CM3. Is that what you mean?

I am unfamiliar with "the fat binary situation". Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by that?

I hope Apple doesn't screw up their displays if they use a 1280x800 resolution. I was using a MacBook Pro at the Apple Store and when I changed the resolution to 1024x768, it stretched the screen instead of putting a black border around the screen. Dumb move! Not only does the screen look like crap, the output to a projector will look like crap too. Not pretty if you're trying to impress a client. :(

I hope they do what the Sony 13.3 in widescreen notebook does - put black borders around the screen in the non-1280x800 screens. When displayed on a projector, the screen will look sharp and crisp instead of "soft" due to the stretching.

I hope Apple realises that people will be using the MacBook for presentations. I happily use my 12" iBook with its native 1024x768 display which matches my projector. I'd like to continue using my projector in its native resolution in a potential new MacBook.

The image will only be stretched on your MacBook, not on the projector, and that's only if you're doing mirroring (not spanning).

Hopefully, though, the MacBook has spanning capability, so you don't need to worry about it at all - run the MB at 1280x800 and the projector at 1024x768.

On a side note - does anyone know what the heck was in those new Apple Store displays that said "do not open until May 9" - they started this whole rumor, after all?

im just going out on a limb here, but maybe Apple will say something after Nintendo's Press Conference which starts in less than an hour??

For whatever reason, I remember coming across something Apple & Nintendo related

Apple usually releases products later in the month.

Here we go again......

All we need now is a post from someone with the usual-
My best friends brother's mother's cousin's aunt's half brother's grandfather twice removeds nephew works 3 doors down from an apple store and he has lunch with someone who works there and he told me that the Macbook is definetly coming out later this month!!

New thread time, same ol' waste of time!

(Not meaning to have a go at anyone just sick of waiting for a damn Apple laptop for less than £1,400 (Every other laptop manufacturer can do it:mad: )

Not to nitpick (Oh to Hell with it, I'm nitpicking! And I'd do it again! Muahaha!), but in that situation, if the guy told you personally it implies you know him, so instead of being your 'best friends brother's mother's cousin's aunt's half brother's grandfather twice removeds nephew', he's really just 'A guy I know that knows an Apple employee'. :p Makes the chain much shorter...

I'm writing this, and I have no idea why I noticed that.

Guess I'm just bored waiting for an affordable MacBook... :p

As am I, hence the diluted, unecessary post:)

Well spotted by the way!!!

Y'know, it's nice to finally be appreciated. You Mac folk are much kinder on ol' Scruff than the mean PC users I've dealt with for years, ^_^.

Oh, er <Insert MacBook Comment Here>. And Now I'm on-topic, :p.

A Load of hot air!!!!

I asked Regent Street London Apple Store and they didn't know anything about mystery parcels (And they did look sincere)

There's a garden path somewhere and we've just been led right up it:mad:

So the clocks ticking until someone else has some hot gossip (Thats a load of old rubbish) about when the Mac/ibook is coming out.

Is anyone else thinking we've another Duke Nukem Forever on our hands here...

Can I just remind you that the iBook G3 to G4 happened over night without any major fuss, so I would not expect too see some special event over the Macbook being released, unless the co-incide it with an education event.

Except that the Macbook is an entirely new product.

If they can hold an event for a giant white speaker with a dock soldered onto the top, they'll hold one for the MacBook.

LOL, too funny. You are right about that. I don't really buy the inventory story this morning on the delay. They released the MBP Hot Plates well before they had any chance of shipping them. Nothing but a cover my arse story here this morning.

Honestly, the cover story may or may not be true. Apple is very likely (and very rightly) expecting huge demand for these machines, and they want to be able to say 'GO GET 'EM!' at the event without much risk of supply bottlenecking. The target demographic for the MacBook is completely different from and much larger than the MacBook Pro's.
